The 19th Ethiopian National Flag Day was celebrated today in a vibrant ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended by the Ministry’s leadership and staff.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos noted that Ethiopia’s national flag represents the country’s proud history, victories, heroic achievements, and identity. He underscored hat Ethiopians’ pride in their national flag is further strengthened as they safeguard their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, advance its development and prosperity, and preserve their historical legacy.
The Minister further emphasized that the contributions and active participation of all Ethiopians play a vital role in ensuring that the national flag continues to fly high.
Bearing in mind the heroes who continue to make sacrifices along the country’s borders to defend Ethiopia’s sovereignty and uphold its flag, Gedion called on every Ethiopian to diligently discharge their responsibilities in their respective fields of work.

I am proud to announce the launch of the National Precious Metals Refinery at Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone, established through a partnership between Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) and Sam Precious Metals.
With a capacity to process over 600 tonnes of precious metals annually, the refinery marks a major milestone in advancing domestic value addition, strengthening Ethiopia’s mining sector, and positioning our country as a regional hub for precious-metals refining.
This initiative reflects the Medemer government’s commitment to linking our productive resources with industrial capacity—boosting export earnings, creating skilled jobs, supporting the jewellery industry, and building a more transparent and competitive gold value chain.
From resource extraction to industrial transformation, we are creating greater value at home.

Here is what you need to know ahead of the AfCRA offical launch next month....
What is AfCRA? The African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA) is a continental institution headquartered in Mauritius created to provide sovereign and corporate credit assessments.
The Problem: For decades, African countries and businesses have paid an unfair "risk premium" on global capital due to biased external ratings.
The Solution: AfCRA delivers context-driven, objective, and realistic credit opinions grounded in African economic realities.
The Impact: Fairer borrowing rates, stronger investor confidence, and true financial sovereignty for the continent.
Save the Date: 7 October 2026

Borderless Africa Feminist Writing Fellowship
What happens when African women refuse to let others tell our stories for us?
Today, we began with one powerful conviction: storytelling is political.
We explored power, patriarchy, borders, identity and representation and what it means to reclaim narrative sovereignty.
Because the borders that divide Africa shape who can move, belong, be heard and shape policy.
