Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, waves to an enthusiastic crowd as she receives cheers from supporters at the grand flag-off of the APC Tinubu–Shettima 2027 Presidential Campaign at the Kaduna Township Stadium.
“What we have done is to fight for the survival of this nation. So allow me, Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, to reintroduce ourselves to you, and to show you that you do not have allies as sincere as we are.
We have been able to keep this country together and defy the predictions of those who forecasted the implosion of our economy simply because we work together.
Almost four years ago, you spoke eloquently, sincerely, boldly, and decisively to elect a change-maker, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We didn't win the 2023 election because we were wise; far from it. We didn't win because we were rich, nor did we win because we were the most educated or the best speakers. We won because you saw the options before you and knew, without a doubt, that the alternative was a calamity.
For the good people of Kaduna State, we have seen why you stood tall to renew the mandate of the APC, to give His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani, the mandate to redeem the fortunes of this great state. This wisdom has made Kaduna State a unified place; a place where a man from Zonkwa sees a man from Zaria as a brother. It is a place where the dividends of democracy are felt just as strongly in Kachia as they are in Metropolitan Kaduna.
This is the legacy of the APC in Kaduna State, and this is why we have come to ask you to renew the mandate a second time for the APC, from top to bottom.
We have the courage to come to Kaduna today because we have kept our promise never to let you down. First and foremost, we promised to restore Kaduna State's glory as the nation's center of learning. Haven't we delivered on that? We brought you the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, haven't we? We carried forward the transition of the Federal College of Education in Zaria, haven't we? We have established state vocational institutes in Rigachukun, Soba, and Samaru Kataf, producing over 4,000 graduates.
To top it all off, we rolled out education funding through NELFUND for hundreds of thousands of students in your universities—haven't we? Truly, the APC is the party to do business with.
And for my brothers in the North, I have a simple message for you: we have built a consistent record of completing projects initiated by our predecessors. This is why we have registered substantial progress on the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline, the Kano–Maradi railway, the Lagos–Kano rail corridor, and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano road. We are also advancing work on the Sokoto–Badagry highway, which will open up a vista of opportunities for agricultural production across this country.
Finally, I want us to bear this in mind and look back at the past: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a leader who has fiercely identified with the North over the years."

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
President Tinubu's Reforms Engineered To Deliver For Nigerians - VP Shettima
** Commissions ultra-modern teaching hospital, schools in Maiduguri, hails Gov Zulum's healthcare, education investments
Vice President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reform agenda places strong emphasis on building enduring institutions, developing human capital and improving the quality of life of Nigerians.
He stressed why sustainable development must outlive the tenure of political officeholders, maintaining that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu is designed to ensure that economic reforms deliver lasting social benefits, with investments in essential public services.
Senator Shettima stated this on Friday while commissioning the ultra-modern Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital (KIUTH) and two schools in Maiduguri, Borno State.
He described investments in healthcare and education as essential to economic productivity, national development and the recovery of communities affected by insecurity.
The Vice President stated that the true measure of public service lies not in the privileges of office but in the institutions established and the opportunities created for future generations.
"Someday, and that day is nearer than we imagine, we shall be judged by what survives our time in office. The offices we held, the aides who surrounded us and the length of our convoys will have surrendered their importance. What will endure are the institutions we built, the roads we constructed and the lives made better because we served," he said.
Commending Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for prioritising healthcare and education, VP Shettima said the newly commissioned facilities demonstrate how purposeful investments can translate into practical benefits for citizens.
He noted that the teaching hospital would bring specialised healthcare closer to communities, reduce the burden of travelling outside the state for treatment and strengthen medical training and research.
"For a family already burdened by illness, the cost and anxiety of travelling outside the state can compound their suffering. This hospital offers the prospect of expert attention nearer home," he said.
On education, the Vice President observed that rebuilding schools in communities affected by insurgency was fundamental to restoring hope, expanding opportunities and preparing the next generation for productive participation in the economy.
"In a state whose communities have endured the disruption of insurgency, a classroom carries a particular significance. It restores the expectation that tomorrow can be planned for," Senator Shettima stated.
Drawing from his experience as a former Governor of Borno State, the Vice President acknowledged the challenges of delivering development amid insecurity and praised Governor Zulum's determination to sustain investment in critical public infrastructure.
"To improve lives and livelihoods in a state that has withstood such a climate of insecurity demands uncommon fortitude. I know the weight of that responsibility. As the street language goes, I have been there and done that," he said.
He conveyed President Tinubu's felicitations to the government and people of Borno State, and reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to supporting the state's reconstruction, peacebuilding and human capital development efforts.
"Our investment in human capital proceeds from the conviction that a healthier, better educated population can produce more, earn more and contribute more. The Federal Government will continue to support Borno's efforts to consolidate peace, rebuild communities and expand opportunities for its people," he said.
The Vice President noted that Borno's reconstruction experience offers valuable lessons in rebuilding communities emerging from conflict, particularly through the restoration of essential public institutions.
He commended the state government, healthcare professionals, educators, contractors, development partners and security personnel for their contributions to the projects.
VP Shettima, however, stressed that the success of the facilities would ultimately depend on their ability to deliver quality services to the people.
"The responsibility now is to keep these institutions worthy of that faith. Their value will be measured in the care patients receive and the education children acquire," he said.
Earlier, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said the teaching hospital stood as one of the most tangible expressions of his administration's commitment to providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities for the people of Borno State.
He explained that the teaching hospital was not merely another building but a centre of learning, a provider of specialised healthcare services and a facility that would bring hope to millions of people across the North East.
The governor said the facility would serve as a clinical training centre for the College of Health Sciences of Kashim Ibrahim University, providing training for medical students, resident doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
Governor Zulum assured that the Borno State Government would continue to invest in the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital, saying, "We have recruited and we will continue to recruit qualified healthcare professionals. We will provide equipment, utility infrastructure and an enabling environment for the hospital to function at the highest standard."
Also, the Pro-Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, said the commissioning of the teaching hospital represented a remarkable achievement and a milestone in the collective commitment to providing quality healthcare services, medical education, research and professional training.
He expressed optimism that the hospital would strengthen healthcare delivery in Borno State and contribute meaningfully to the well-being of people across the North East.
On his part, the Chairman of the Governing Board of Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, described the hospital as a landmark project of unprecedented significance in the state.
The academic commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for choosing Governor Zulum as his successor and applauded the governor for his bold decision to establish the teaching hospital and equip it with modern, state-of-the-art medical facilities.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ibrahim Musa Kida, said the greatness of the hospital would be determined not merely by its buildings and equipment but by the quality of its personnel and the dedication of its staff.
He also commended VP Shettima for his contributions to the progress and development of Borno State and Nigeria, particularly his continued commitment to peace and development in the state.
On her part, the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Prof. Fatima Kyari, assured that the Council would facilitate the accreditation of all relevant medical science courses at the institution.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
NEC Endorses 90-Day Action Plan To Ease Cost Of Living For Nigerians
*Translate reforms into improved living conditions, VP Shettima charges governors
** Tasks them on jobs, affordable transportation, healthcare, others
*As Health Minister briefs Council, allays fears over Ebola spread
The National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed a 90-day economic action plan proposed by the Federal Ministry of Finance to consolidate gains from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic reforms.
The plan focuses on reducing the cost of living, improving food affordability, attracting investment, and accelerating the delivery of projects with direct benefits to Nigerians.
The Council's endorsement on Thursday followed a presentation by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, during its 161st meeting held virtually and chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
This is just as the Vice President said while President Tinubu's economic reform programme was designed to achieve broader national prosperity, governments at all levels have a responsibility to translate its objectives into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
The 90-day action plan identifies five priority areas: food affordability, tax harmonisation, completion of high-impact projects, resolution of investment bottlenecks and regulated household support.
NEC also approved the establishment of a national dashboard to track ongoing projects across the federation, with particular emphasis on transparency, accountability and accurate reporting of how proceeds from fuel subsidy removal are being utilised.
Presenting the economic outlook, Oyedele expressed optimism about the progress recorded under the Tinubu administration's reform programme and the prospects for further economic recovery.
He identified the reduction of headline inflation and interest rates to single digits by 2027 as key policy objectives, noting that the next phase of reforms would require coordinated implementation across federal and state institutions.
The Finance Minister's presentation placed particular emphasis on translating macroeconomic improvements into measurable benefits for households and businesses through targeted interventions, improved fiscal coordination and the removal of barriers to investment.
Addressing members of Council, Vice President Shettima charged state governors and relevant government institutions to ensure that the gains of the administration's economic reforms translate into affordable transportation, improved healthcare, employment opportunities and greater financial security for Nigerians.
He said the success of economic policies must ultimately be measured by their impact on citizens' daily lives, stressing that the responsibility of government extends beyond announcing reforms to building institutions that enable Nigerians to plan their futures with confidence.
"The first dividend of prosperity should be the confidence to plan a life. Our task is to make such confidence less dependent on fortune," he said.
According to him, the Council's deliberations on transportation, healthcare, police reform, and livestock development represent critical decisions about the quality of life Nigerians should expect from economic progress.
"Our separate jurisdictions must serve a common public interest," Shettima said, emphasising that Nigeria's federal structure must strengthen cooperation rather than become an obstacle to the delivery of essential services.
On the National Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Bus Initiative, the Vice President underscored the need for state governments to support affordable transportation systems that would reduce the financial burden on commuters.
He maintained that the success of the programme should be determined by affordability and accessibility rather than the number of vehicles deployed.
"The cost of reaching a livelihood should never consume the livelihood itself. The passenger's experience must guide our ambition, because the value of public transport resides in the journeys it makes possible. We should assess success through affordability and access, rather than fleet size alone,” he said.
VP Shettima maintained that President Tinubu's economic reform programme was designed to achieve broader national prosperity, noting that governments at all levels have a responsibility to translate its objectives into improved living conditions.
"His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has made economic reform the instrument of a larger national ambition. Our contribution must give that ambition social depth and productive strength," he stated.
He urged governors to bring their understanding of local realities into national policy decisions, insisting that effective implementation requires clear responsibilities and practical agreements among the tiers of government.
"Our separate mandates must not become competing excuses. Each Governor carries knowledge that no federal document can supply," he said.
The Vice President challenged members of the Council to judge every policy proposal by its capacity to reduce uncertainty, create opportunities and strengthen public confidence in government.
"Nigerians deserve institutions on which they can organise their lives. Providing that assurance is among the most consequential uses of public authority. That is the assurance we owe them," the Vice President said.
NEC Reviews Ebola Response, Tasks States On Preparedness
Meanwhile, Council received an update on the reported Ebola outbreak in the Federal Capital Territory from the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, who allayed fears of a major public health crisis, assuring members that Nigeria possesses the institutional capacity to contain the situation.
The Minister briefed Council on efforts by the ministry, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to operationalise a robust national response system.
He identified coordination and governance, detection at points of entry, laboratory testing capacity, logistics for essential kits and personal protective equipment, and effective strategic communication as critical components of the response.
The Minister acknowledged the efforts of 21 state government that had updated their response plans and urged the remaining 15 states to expedite the establishment of appropriate preparedness and response mechanisms.
...Directs States To Strengthen Polio Eradication Efforts
Council also received the report of the NEC Ad Hoc Committee on Polio Eradication, chaired by the Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, and resolved to direct states to conduct post-campaign reviews, particularly in areas where children were missed during immunisation exercises and communities affected by insecurity.
The Council emphasised the need for timely release of counterpart funds, strengthened routine immunisation, improved coordination with security agencies and closer cooperation among states to ensure better coverage in subsequent campaigns.
It further stressed that sustained political commitment from governors, traditional rulers and security agencies would remain critical to achieving the complete eradication of polio in Nigeria.
...Moves To Unlock Livestock Sector's Economic Potential
On livestock development, Council received the report of the NEC Ad Hoc Committee on Livestock Development, chaired by the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Nasir Idris, and acknowledged the sector's potential to stimulate economic growth, create employment and improve livelihoods across the country.
Council noted that all states had indicated interest in supporting the Federal Government's livestock development initiatives and resolved to strengthen collaboration between the Federal and State Governments to accelerate reforms and unlock the sector's economic potential.
FG, States To Establish Joint Financing Framework For CNG, Electric Vehicles
In another major resolution, Council received a presentation on the National Affordable Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Transit Programme by the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, and resolved to establish a joint financing framework between the Federal and State Governments to accelerate the deployment of CNG and electric vehicles across the country.
Council specifically directed that the programme must deliver tangible benefits to citizens through reduced transportation costs, rather than limiting its impact to the provision of alternative-energy vehicles.
It further resolved that relevant authorities should engage transport unions and operators to ensure that savings arising from the adoption of CNG and electric vehicles are passed on to commuters through lower fares.
To give effect to the decision, Council agreed to constitute a committee to coordinate the proposed financing arrangement, engage relevant stakeholders and develop practical measures to ensure that the economic benefits of the programme translate into affordable, accessible and sustainable transportation for Nigerians.
