Today is a very momentous day for Maidstone Crown Court, and for me both personally and professionally, as HHJ Philip Statman retires, having become the second longest serving circuit judge in the country. CVP link available for those who can't make it in person at 3.45pm.
Today is the Valedictory for His Honour Judge Statman, one of the finest judges this court has ever seen. His exemplary service and commitment to justice has elevated the standard of the justice. The valedictory will take place at 15:45 in court 7👨🏻⚖️
Maidstone CC celebrated its 40th anniversary with 200+ attendees incl. the Lady Chief Justice, President of the King’s Bench Division, Senior Presiding Judge and Deputy Senior Presiding Judge. The memorable moment was when the Lady Chief Justice shouted me out. Life complete 🫡
THERE IS A BRAND SPANKING NEW WORKING LIFT AT MAIDSTONE. IT WORKS. AND… AND… WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON AND CALL FOR THE LIFT, ONE ARRIVES AND TAKES YOU UP AND DOWN. SAFELY. IT DOESN’T STOP BETWEEN FLOORS OR MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN FINAL DESTINATION. IT WORKS.
There is no working lift at Maidstone Crown Court. The goods lift, which was being offered ‘as a gesture of good will’, has also broken down. @HMCTSgovuk what are you doing about this?
Both public lifts are out of order for the foreseeable future. Court participants with accessibility issues are unable to enter the court rooms and other areas of the court. The entire court is falling apart. What are you doing about it? @HMCTSgovuk
Problems with the cells at Maidstone Crown today, hence the heavily-reduced court list. But the cafe is still open and the lifts working. Miracles do happen!
New year but no new canteen at Maidstone Crown Court yet. No sign of the eagerly-anticipated vending machines either. But at least one thing is consistent, with one of two @MaidstoneCCLift still out of action.....
After a long wait, Maidstone Crown Court is to get a new team to run a canteen. Forks and Corks is asking for suggestions for its breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea menus. It'll open on the 3rd floor in January... when hopefully bacon butties will be available for northerners!
