We regularly train to react to breakdowns of machinery. If an engine were to malfunction at a critical moment we would need to take swift action to keep the ship and crew safe.
Leadership and teamwork from bridge to engine space.👇

This year, we were given a special look around @HMSScottRN, the @RoyalNavy's ONLY deep-water survey ship.⚓
Named after explorer Robert Falcon Scott, the ship is the largest ocean survey vessel in western Europe.
Back alongside a blustery Gibraltar this morning after time at sea rehearsing our skills. Time to dig out the hoovers, dusters and polish. #GreatScott#GreatSpringClean
Fun in the sun in H131, today’s training teaches important skills to us all on how to fight and recover from a fire in our main engine room, important skills when we are 2000 nautical miles offshore with only ourselves to rely on. #GreatScott#Greatjob
There are many things to do to get a ship ready for Operational Sea Training. The bridge team practise for their Rules of the Road exam after a morning of firefighting and damage control. Still have time for passing friends #greatscott#greatraining@HMS_Richmond@RFAFortVictoria
Our 8th transit of the Strait of Gibraltar this year, POHM Henderson keeps a keen eye on the surface picture as a Christmas container ship transits West. #GreatScott#greatstrait#globaltrade https://t.co/70woPlty5F
We are a long way from home yet our ties to our base port remain strong. WO1ET(ME) Mugford presents a cheque to the Child Development Centre at Scott Hospital. An enduring affiliation that has directly supported some of HMS SCOTT’s sailors #greatscott#greatmurals#wheresthecrest
Watch handover in Lisbon complete, a beautiful city has provided our sailors with a great run ashore. Returning to the Survey grounds now for the last patrol of 2021. #greatscott#greatheadmarks
Today we welcomed on board the Officer in Charge of the @MarinhaPT ship NRP Bérrio. It was great to exchange stories and hear about the successes of our Portuguese friends and partners. 🇬🇧 🇵🇹👇

This morning our Commanding Officer and the @UKDAinLisbon had the privilege of being hosted by Captain Angelo, Commanding Officer of Lisbon Naval Base. He welcomed Scott to Lisbon.👇

Our Weapons Engineer, Petty Officer Andy Kirkaldy, has created these fantastic poppies.👇
He’s raised nearly £500 for the @PoppyLegion, who do so much excellent work to support service personnel, past and present.

We’re alongside in Gibraltar completing a maintenance period to ready the ship for our winter survey season. Work is progressing well and we’re looking forward to getting back out there on the ocean blue.
Stay tuned for more updates.

Yesterday, the Commanding Officer had the privilege of speaking with the ship’s affiliates, including @lordmayorswan.👇
Thank you to all our affiliates for their strong support and connections, which are vital to a deployed ship and crew.

#OnThisDay 1805 @RoyalNavy was successful in defeating the Franco-Spanish Fleet at the Battle of #Trafalgar confirming British superiority of the seas. Lord Nelson died before the end, having done his duty, handing over Command to another great commander Admiral Collingwood.
Today is #TrafalgarDay, a highly important day in the Royal Navy Calendar as it is the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar which defined the Age of Sail and which sealed British dominion of the seas for a hundred years. https://t.co/yqtZNCJxLi
.@HMSScottRN currently in #Gibraltar for maintenance.
In her 24 yrs service she has surveyed approximately 3.7% of the world’s oceans. By end of 2021 she will have surveyed 300,000 square km of ocean.
