Christmas hampers have been delivered to sailors spending the festive period on board ships alongside in Falmouth. Mission to Seafarers visited @HMSScottRN @RFAMountsBay and @RFACardiganBay to hand over the goodies consisting of chocolates, small gifts and knitted scarves.

#OnThisDay 1856 HMS RESOLUTE, which was abandoned in the Arctic after a failed mission to find EREBUS & TERROR, was found by US Whaler. She was returned to UK by USA.When she paid off in 1879 Queen Victoria had a desk made which was presented to USA and is the desk in Oval Office

#OnThisDay 35 yrs ago in 1990 WRNS Officers adopted RN Ranks losing the blue braid and taking up the gold. This was a step towards the integration of the WRNS in to the RN 3 years later.

Battleship and the last Battleship in the world to be launched, HMS VANGUARD was launched in #Clydebank by the then Princess Elizabeth. She was over 50,000 Tonnes at full load and capable of over 30 Knots. The end of an era.

#OnThisDay 40 yrs ago in 1985 the Carrier HMS ARK ROYAL was commissioned @HMNBPortsmouth She served until 2011 when she was retired early. She was named after the original Ark Royal which was the Flagship of the English Fleet that defeated the Spanish Armada.
