Harrowing accounts of inhumane treatment in Israeli detention centres.
Among those detained are @UNRWA staff.

This report matches the shocking testimonies of those we met after their release earlier this year.
They told us of ill-treatment & torture including deprivation of sleep & food, not being allowed to use the toilets + being forced to wear diapers, threats to harm their family members, verbal & physical abuse, forced to confessions + signing papers in a language they did not understand including on relations between @UNRWA & Palestinian armed groups.

These violations of international human rights & humanitarian law must be investigated & come to an end.

Political assassinations & continued targeting of civilians in Gaza while talks continue leads us to ask, how can mediation succeed when one party assassinates the negotiator on the other side? Peace needs serious partners & a global stance against the disregard for human life.

Two clearly marked UNICEF vehicles were hit with live ammunition today while waiting at a designated holding point near the Wadi Gaza checkpoint. They were en route to reunite five children, including a baby, with their father.
One vehicle was struck by three bullets, but fortunately no injuries occurred. The team managed to proceed with the mission and safely deliver the children.
This is the second shooting incident involving @UNICEF cars on humanitarian duty in the past 12 weeks and on both occasions, the humanitarian consequences could have been severe, for both our teams and the children they serve.
We strongly reiterate that humanitarian workers are protected under International Humanitarian Law and must not be targeted. Our operations must be facilitated and protected to provide the lifesaving aid that the people and children in #Gaza desperately rely on.
