August 10, 1858: Scholar, educator, and activist Anna Julia Cooper was born into slavery in North Carolina. In 1925, Cooper became the 4th African American woman to earn a PhD. In 1892, Cooper wrote A Voice from the South, considered foundational to Black feminist thought. 1/3

Today, we lay to rest civil rights icon John Robert Lewis.
The son of sharecroppers, this U.S. Congressman was a decades-long champion of Voting Rights & a shining example of what #goodtrouble looks like.
May this American hero rest eternally.
