A new bombshell report reveals that Walmart and Amazon are actively allowing “Made in USA” fraud to persist. Asked why, Walmart’s chatbot said the quiet part out loud: it’s a “business decision” and “the legal risk has been historically low” due to limited FTC enforcement against retailers.

This one wasn’t a hallucination, just logic. If violating the law is more profitable than complying with it, the business incentive is to violate it. It’s the same logic as why dominant corporations are ignoring the antitrust laws while consumers pay higher prices and Main Street competes on an unlevel playing field.

If we want to protect domestic manufacturing, competition, and consumer choice, Washington should start by enforcing the laws already on the books and giving our enforcement agencies the resources they need to do it.

Trump calls @Walmart's commitment to grocery price cuts "patriotic." But farmers, suppliers, and independent retailers are the ones who'll actually pay for them.

Walmart has two ways to lower prices: accept thinner margins (Wall Street won't allow it) or squeeze suppliers harder. History points to the second, just read the unsealed complaint in FTC v. PepsiCo, which lays out how Walmart allegedly kept its own prices low by pressuring a supplier to raise costs on competing retailers.

This is not healthy competition, it's raw buyer power, and it leaves consumers worse off. Independent retailers get squeezed out, food suppliers lose places to sell, and prices climb once local markets stop being competitive.

If the Administration wants lower prices, it can enforce the antitrust laws already on the books against powerful buyers, starting with the Robinson-Patman Act.
