With @DanishMFA. Previously @UNDPPA in NYC & Beirut. From Copenhagen. Tweeting and liking on my own, often on security, climate, feminism i.e. politics.
The panic now- if only you could see the fear, the panic, the traffic, the ambulances, the planes, the flares, the strikes, the sounds, the smells, the drones… Beirut.
🛑 Following the adoption of bills by the Knesset against @UNRWA aimed at preventing it to operate in the occupied Palestinian Territory, I wrote to the President of the General Assembly.
These bills will not terminate the refugee status of the Palestinians, which exists independently of UNRWA’s service provision. They will severely harm their lives and future.
Today, even as we look into the faces of children in #Gaza, some of whom we know will die tomorrow, the rules-based international order is crumbling in a repetition of the horrors that led to the establishment of the United Nations, and in violation of commitments to prevent their recurrence.
I urge Member States to take action to support UNRWA commensurate with the gravity of the situation and risks.

Once again, unchecked information is used to discredit @UNRWA & its staff.
Earlier today, reports circulated on social & Israeli media that an UNRWA staff member was killed together with the Hamas head in Gaza.
I confirm that the staff member in question is alive. He currently lives in Egypt where he traveled with his family in April through the Rafah border.
Time to put an end to disinformation campaigns.

Another night of horror in the #Gaza Strip.
A strike hit a hospital courtyard, burning the tents where people were sleeping. Just before this, an @UNRWA school sheltering families was hit in Nuseirat.
That same school was going to be used as a #polio vaccination site today.
UNIFIL statement:
Early this morning, peacekeepers at a UN position in Ramyah observed three platoons of IDF soldiers crossing the Blue Line into Lebanon.
Another line has been dangerously crossed in Lebanon: IDF shelling of @UN peacekeepers whose positions are known.
We condemn this inadmissible act, for which there is no justification.
The EU reiterates its full support to @UNIFIL_ , to its UNSC-mandated mission & its troops.

Nearly 100 medics killed in 2 weeks, 28 in just the past 24 hours. 45 clinics hit. As doctors struggle to cope with the increasing toll of injuries from #Israel’i strikes, healthcare in #Lebanon is under attack. Our @pbs@NewsHour report.
IDF targeted once again healthcare workers overnight, in central Beirut: 7 people including paramedics were killed.
Not only civilians are victims of attacks, including in densely populated areas, but they are deprived of emergency care.
I condemn this violation of IHL.
Julia Ramadan, who spent her last day collecting food for the displaced, has died from wounds after the Israeli strike in Saida. Her mother was killed too.
She dedicated her final moments to helping others.
Say her name. Remember her life. These are not just numbers.
Extremely important graphic. Israeli forces have killed many times more people in Lebanon (purple) than Hezbollah has killed in Israel (yellow) over the past year.
Huge blast just now in #Beirut that reverberated all the way to buildings along the sea front. IDF warnings in the last hour that they would be hitting the southern suburbs very hard tonight. These residential suburbs are the most densely populated civilian areas in #Lebanon.
At least 1,540 people have been killed and 5,410 people have been wounded in Lebanon in almost a year of conflict with Israel
— Lebanese govt statistics
Around half the dead and wounded are from the past 10 days.
“82% of the exchange of fire between Lebanon and Israel since October 7th has been done by Israel.”
Appreciate @piersmorgan having me on to give him a history lesson on Israel & Lebanon - not just since Oct 7th but going back to 1978!

A pager exploded in a pediatrician’s office, lacerating the face of a 10-day-old baby.
Hospitals in Lebanon were flooded with thousands of people with eyes blinded.
Horrifying scenes. @Edmund_Bower spoke with doctors on the frontlines of the attack for @newlinesmag. https://t.co/OKVgjuP7Xj
