Being in your 30s is realizing you can actually just... leave. The relationship. The friendship. The room. The situation. You don’t need to stay anywhere that doesn’t feel good anymore.
My girlfriend once told me something during an argument that I never forgot.
She said, “You always tell me to talk to you when something hurts me, but whenever I do, you defend your intentions instead of trying to understand why I was hurt.”
“You don’t have to agree with every feeling I have. But you should care enough to acknowledge it. Your intentions may explain why you did something, but they don’t erase the impact it had on me.”
Then she said something that stayed with me:
“I’m not asking you to take the blame for something you didn’t mean to do. I’m asking you to care enough about me to hear my pain without making me fight to prove that it’s real.”
If someone needs me to explain to them why I'll travel from Johannesburg down to Durban or Cape Town for a 5 or 10km race - I know I am not talking to a runner.
If you are a runner then the reasons for travelling for good race opportunities should be completely obvious.

Hey guys, I wanna share something real.
My heart has been heavy lately.
I’m going through a tough time financially, I’m behind on bills and it’s really bad.
Finding work lately has been really difficult, and it’s made things even harder.
