Zambia remains on high alert following the WHO declaration of the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in DRC and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
A suspected Viral Haemorrhagic Fever case identified in Luanshya District is currently under investigation. Preliminary Rapid Diagnostic Tests for Ebola and Marburg have returned NEGATIVE, while confirmatory PCR testing is ongoing at UTH.
The patient is stable and under isolation. 70 contacts are being monitored, with no secondary symptoms reported so far.
Government has intensified surveillance, screening, and preparedness measures across high-risk provinces and border points.
The public is urged to remain calm, practice good hygiene, avoid contact with body fluids from sick individuals, and report symptoms such as fever or unexplained bleeding to the nearest health facility or toll-free line 909.
