Spain’s Sánchez is giving a loan amounting to €754.3 million to Morocco to finance the purchase of 40 intercity trains.

Spain also approved a similar €227.8 million concessional loan to Egypt in December 2024 to modernize Cairo Metro's Line 2 rolling stock, and had previously authorized a €190 million loan offer for Casablanca tram projects in 2019.

The sheer brazenness with which Greece has once again betrayed European solidarity is simply scandalous. While the EU attempts to increase economic pressure on Putin’s war machine, Athens prioritizes the profits of its shipping companies above all else—and holds the rest of Europe to ransom with a veto:

De economische minderheid

Nederland int jaarlijks ongeveer €450 miljard aan belastingen en sociale premies. Dat geld komt uit loonbelasting, btw, vennootschapsbelasting en tientallen andere heffingen. Al die belastingen hebben uiteindelijk dezelfde oorsprong. Er moet eerst een bedrijf zijn dat investeert, produceert, verkoopt en mensen in dienst neemt voordat er winst, lonen, consumptie en dus belasting ontstaat. De groep die dat economische proces op gang brengt, vertegenwoordigt ongeveer een op de negen stemmen.

Een politieke meerderheid die deze groep vertegenwoordigt, bestaat niet. Koopkracht, onderwijs, migratie, wonen, zorg en veiligheid brengen mensen naar de stembus. Het ondernemingsklimaat is min of meer een randzaak. Dat verschil is voldoende om de politieke dynamiek te begrijpen.

Daarom vindt vrijwel iedere afzonderlijke maatregel om lasten voor het bedrijfsleven te verzwaren eenvoudig een politieke meerderheid. Hogere belastingen, extra regels, nieuwe vergunningen of aanvullende verplichtingen raken telkens dezelfde relatief kleine groep. Geen van die maatregelen verandert op zichzelf ook veel maar de optelsom doet dat wel.

Waarschuwingen over een slechter ondernemersklimaat komen meestal van de mensen die zelf investeren, ondernemen of bedrijven vertegenwoordigen. Daardoor krijgen ze gemakkelijk het stempel eigenbelang. De mogelijkheid dat hier tegelijk een algemeen economisch belang wordt verdedigd, verdwijnt uit beeld.

Daar komt bij dat de gevolgen van maatregelen niet direct voelbaar zijn. Een investering die achterwege blijft haalt het nieuws niet. Een fabriek die nooit wordt gebouwd evenmin. Een ondernemer die besluit de volgende uitbreiding in het buitenland te realiseren blijft onzichtbaar. De rekening verschijnt pas jaren later, wanneer investeringen achterblijven, de economische groei afzwakt en de belastinginkomsten steeds moeilijker gelijke tred houden met de uitgaven.

Een democratie kan zichzelf op veel punten corrigeren. Verkiezingen brengen nieuwe meerderheden en nieuw beleid maar op dit punt werkt dat mechanisme eigenlijk niet. De groep die de rekening betaalt is simpelweg te klein om verkiezingen te beslissen, terwijl de gevolgen ook nog eens pas zichtbaar worden als de politici die de besluiten namen allang zijn vervangen.

After Germany phased out its nuclear power plants, it even blew up the cooling towers in an act of self-sabotage.

And now, just as the world is facing its biggest energy security crisis in history, Germany has positioned itself in the worst possible position.

Those 2 reactors once supplied Germany with:

- Nuclear once accounted for almost 30% of Germany's electricity

Today, Germany has among the highest electricity prices in the world and is facing rampant deindustrialization.

Chancellor Merz acknowledged that the nuclear phaseout was a mistake but said there is nothing to do about it.

Er is zogezegd "geen alternatief" voor het wegenvignet van 100 euro voor elke Vlaming zei Ben Weyts. Ik diende er eentje in.

Voorstel om subsidies met 130 miljoen per jaar te doen dalen. Niet heel erg moeilijk in Vlaanderen. Dan hoeft het wegenvignet (jaarlijkse inkomsten: 130 miljoen inkomsten) er niet te komen.

Voorstel weggestemd door N-VA, CD&V en Vooruit. Kom dan niet meer af met "er is geen alternatief".
