In the late 10th century the Norse explorer Eric the Red was exiled from Iceland for manslaughter. As he sailed west he discovered a large landmass, where he docked and settled the island.

Desperate to attract other explorers to settle his land with him, he enticed them there by naming it Grønland, even though most of it was covered by ice.

10 centuries later, using the same original branding, Grønland has successfully recruited 56K people to settle or be born there, and enticed the most powerful man in the world to buy it.
