Another honour killing has taken place in #Tamilnadu . This time its again #Chennai .

A young man named Praveen was allegedly killed by the father of the woman he loved.

The accused is reportedly a TVK functionary.

Although he has been arrested, such a horrific crime has taken place right under the Chief Minister’s watch. Yet, just as former Chief Minister Stalin remained silent on honour killings, @CMOTamilnadu too remains silent.

Is this the change you promised, Sir?

When will you speak out against honour killings, Hon’ble Chief Minister?

This young boy from Rein Bazaar, Hyderabad was picked up by police because he was found roaming on the roads late in the night.

He can be heard pleading with the police to let him call his mother once!

At least five policemen surrounded him and took him into detention. Apparently he was counselled by the police.

Imagine what Hyderabad police will do when it is a politician’s son…!!!

DMK's Dalit massacre over a 30 rupees wage hike demand by Dalit tea estate workers.

The Manjolai Massacre, also known as the Thamirabarani Massacre, occurred on July 23, 1999, in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, due to a violent police response to a peaceful protest by tea estate workers. The workers, primarily Dalits employed by the Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation (BBTC) at the Manjolai tea estates, were demanding better wages, improved working conditions, and the release of 652 workers arrested during an earlier protest on June 8, 1999. The earlier arrests followed a demonstration against wage cuts and poor labor conditions, including a demand to include travel time to work sites in their working hours.

On July 23, approximately 4,000–5,000 workers and supporters, organized by groups like Puthiya Tamilagam, Tamil Manila Congress, and Communist parties, marched to the Tirunelveli Collectorate to submit a petition. The procession, starting from the Tirunelveli railway station, was stopped about 50 meters from the Collectorate. An altercation with the police led to a lathi charge, during which police attacked the marchers with batons and, according to some accounts, threw stones. As the crowd fled in panic, many were driven toward the Thamirabarani River, where 17 people, including two women and a two-year-old child, drowned while attempting to escape. Reports also indicate injuries to others, including media personnel.

The underlying causes included long-standing labor disputes with BBTC, which leased the 8,374-acre estate and was accused of imposing wage penalties and denying benefits. The workers’ demands for fair pay (e.g., a wage hike to Rs 150 per day) and better conditions were unmet, fueling tensions. Some sources suggest the police action was unprovoked, with Human Rights Watch condemning it as a brutal attack on Dalit workers. Political figures like TMC president G.K. Moopanar alleged the violence was orchestrated for electoral gains in 1999, though this claim remains contentious. The state government, led by Chief Minister Karunanidhi, claimed the marchers initiated violence, a narrative disputed by activists and eyewitnesses who described the protest as peaceful.

The massacre highlighted systemic issues like caste-based oppression, as most victims were Dalits, and inadequate labor protections in Tamil Nadu’s tea estates. Despite investigations and calls for justice, including demands for a judicial inquiry and fresh post-mortems, no significant accountability was achieved, and the workers’ demands largely remained unaddressed.

The victims included a 16 month old child.
