Malta has formally notified all @UN Member States of the attack on the Malta‑flagged M/V San Antonio in the Strait of Hormuz.
We condemn this unlawful act in the strongest terms. Targeting commercial vessels, and the seafarers who crew them, is unacceptable, violates international law, and endangers global maritime security.
The latest attack, the third on a Malta-flagged ship in the past weeks, is in contravention of the recently adopted UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
Targeting innocent merchant ships is a violation of International humanitarian law. Seafarers are civilians – and in this regard they are protected under the Geneva Convention, which prohibits attacks against civilians and civilian objects.
