Zimbabwean political prisoner Bhekimpilo Mbedzi returns to court today after previously being brought before the court in leg irons and handcuffs, a degrading spectacle seemingly designed to humiliate him and intimidate others from expressing their frustrations with a corrupt regime that refuses to listen to its citizens.

His alleged offence was opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extension of his term of office by an additional two years through an illegal constitutional amendment, and expressing his intention to exercise his constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceful protest on 31 July 2026.

For that, he has remained in jail since he was taken from his home in Beitbridge on 15 July 2026.
He was initially taken in for questioning before being charged with inciting public violence, later described in court documents as incitement related to an unlawful gathering.

It is actions like these that continue to make Zimbabwe a laughing stock and pariah state among the family of nations.

They reinforce the country’s reputation for political repression, undermine confidence in its institutions, and drive citizens to flee in search of safety and opportunity in neighbouring countries, including South Africa, where Harare’s chronic misgovernance has contributed significantly to migration pressures.

Mbedzi is the Matabeleland South chairperson of the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG) led by veteran opposition leader, Job Sikhala.

The principal task and obligation of a State President is to defend , uphold ,obey and respect the Constitution . This is clearly spelt out in section 90(1) of the Constitution.

The President is also obliged to promote unity and peace in the nation for the benefit and well being of all the people of Zimbabwe . This is spelt out in section 90(2)(a) of the Constitution.

By signing into law , Constitution Anendement No 3 of 2026 on 7 July 2026 , the President falied to fulfill the constitutional obligation of protecting and upholding the Constitution.

He committed an act of constitutional treason . He betrayed that Constitution.

He betrayed the liberation struggle and its center of gravity , the sacred democratic principle of one person one vote .

By pushing CAB 3 and its inherent structural unpopularity he has failed to maintain the peace and unity for the benefit of all required in the Constitution .

He has chosen to serve a faction , a syndicate that is bend on permanently subverting Zimbabwe s values ethos and existence .

A faction and syndicate that is a national threat . An existential threat to the vital interests of the Republic .

Unconstitutional Acts by the State lead to the citizen withdrawing its voluntary consent to be governed .

Without the voluntary consent of the Citizen it is not possible to govern .

Yes one can pretend to govern .

Pretend to read out budgets , inspect guards of honor , go to the UN or deploy troops .

It is but a charade .

Sooner or later , the chickens always come home to roost and legitmacy is restored .

A new social contract is crafted .

The treasonous regime committed a UDI on 7 July 2026.

It now must undo its mess and restore the 2013 Constitution.

This is our basic peaceful constitutional demand.

CA3 takes Zimbabwe far from democracy and into autocracy.

It is your right to vote and choose your leaders. No one is ordained to lead Zimbabwe forever.

It is your constitutional right to protest peacefully against this authoritarianism expressed through CA3. Do not be intimidated by the same people who stole your right to vote!

Our position is that whoever wants to exercise their constitutional right to protest the unconstitutional & unilateral amendment to our constitution, we support & give solidarity.

To those who expect someone to provide a blueprint of how protest is done on their behalf, sorry. At this point, we are in an operational entropy phase of the struggle. For those who understand thermodynamics, for the struggle to survive the effects of the current entropy we have to move from a closed system to an open dissipative structure.

We are where we are because in a closed system as more and more people lose energy, those with fire have to lose theirs too in an attempt to replenish others.

We therefore have to act as a dissipative system that constantly absorbs outside energy and exports deadwood and internal chaos. This is why those of us who understand this will support those calling for whatever action on July 31 regardless of size.

The future of the struggle depends on new energy. The longevity of the struggle depends on strategic dissipation and accumulation.

Order always starts from disorder.
