It is Lancashire Day.

The 47th (Lancashire) Regiment of Foot was raised in Scotland in 1741 & fought against the Jacobites in the '45.

In the Peninsular War, the 2nd Battalion of the 47th Regt, was sent to Gibraltar in 1809 & to Portugal in 1811. The battalion took part in the battles of Barrosa Vitoria, Nive & Bayonne as well as the sieges of Tarifa & San Sebastián.
