I’m very excited to announce that after ranking 4th in the T&O ST3 national selection, I’ll be starting as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with @imperialcollege and the @NWTOrtho deanery. I’m so grateful to my incredible mentors! 🦴🔨
Hip fracture care is marked by significant variability in the performance indicators used and how they are defined which makes meaningful comparisons across healthcare systems challenging.

@ShiromChabra I’m sorry this has happened to you. The system is becoming increasingly anti-meritocratic and will continue to lose its best and brightest.
This review provides a comprehensive overview of all studies that reported the prevalence of complications after surgery in older adults with a hip fracture, using data from over two million patients.

@effiewebbjourno Did you really rush out a story with minimal fact checking just to meet a deadline? Do you not see how harmful your actions are on the public’s confidence in the NHS?
@UKGastroDr I suspect what that person really means is that it’s easy to pick out IBD in a multiple choice Q about diarrhoea where the other options are migraine, pneumonia and depression.
@pa_StephenNash@LittlePersonDoc I did 6y primary school, + 5y secondary school + 2y A levels + 6y med school = 19 years. Why didn’t I become a consultant surgeon upon graduating med school??
@FrederikBaron@cannula_service@Anisocyte@DrEilidhMaria@timricketts_ It is a shortcut because you’re bypassing the high entry requirements and competition ratios of medical school and postgraduate training. Spending lots of time in a single field doesn’t make you an expert.
Also, your linked study doesn’t support your claim.
@HDambhaMiller@SecretPhysician It’s interesting you called them ‘lead geriatrician PA’ which seems misleading to me. Imo, ‘geriatrician’ implies doctor. We wouldn’t call a nurse working in cardio a cardiologist nurse.
I think language really matters in the PA issue. (Not intended to be an attack on you).
