@HeatherL114 True. But with the digital communication option, I can also wait a little to reply so they can read my response after they've had a chance to cool off. And I'll offer to follow up with a phone call if needed. Sometimes, families still need/want to talk to us and hear our voices.

@offgridteacher Lego sets, Rubik's puzzles (there are more than just the cube), art kits depending on interest, books (Bad Guys series is a hit in our house)

@mrscmwhite I saw this at the beginning of last school year and tried it, although I made a class set of Post-Its and made sure to use all of them during the week. Lots of positive feedback from parents and students!

@offgridteacher I think I used to teach the same lesson... I modeled for the whole class and then gave the kids some time to try it on their own. It wasn't on the post-test and was frustrating for many, so we didn't spend too much time on it.

@offgridteacher It's so nice of them to help! I'd definitely leave a list so they can check off as they go. I've had helpers wipe out bins, label things when I've had a finalized class list (mailboxes, book bins, attendance board), tape names to desks, cover bulletin boards, and prep for week 1

@offgridteacher @TechieClassical The calming corner itself didn't solve the problem but it helped students calm down so they could return to class. I could peek at the Google Form on my phone to see what happened and decide how to follow up with the student.

@offgridteacher @TechieClassical I used a calming corner with my 2nd graders. Nothing cute - under a teacher desk for some privacy. It had a 5 min timer and some Ss brought a book. They had to fill out a Google Form to help them reflect & gave them a chance to let me know if they wanted to talk with a teacher.
