Please retweet, urgent home needed for 12 yr old ROSIE Terrier 💔💔💔 Rosie is another of our new arrivals from the council pound. #YORKSHIRE #UK She hadn’t had any offers of help, and we just couldn’t leave her there at her age.
Rosie is struggling in kennels - she’s started to put the brakes on and refuse to come back into her kennel which is just heartbreaking, but who can blame her - she shouldn’t be homeless at her age and be having to go into a kennel. She is safe with us, but desperately unhappy and we won’t sit back and let her struggle.
We URGENTLY need a foster home for Rosie ideally with a view to adoption (but not essential).
Rosie needs a quieter home where she will get plenty of company, older children upwards, no cats, possibly a very calm smaller older dog as she just ignores dogs . The only time we’ve heard her bark is at a horse - she likes to tell them that she might only be small but she is a terrier after all .

As the Patron of the Cavalier King Charles Club, and the 'mother' of two beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, one of whom passed away only a fortnight ago after ten of the most enriching years it was my privilege to be a part of, I condemn in the most vigorous terms Peta president Ingrid Newkirk's letter to King Charles III in which she makes a "call for ‘King Charles’ to be removed from the breed’s name and make clear that the monarchy does not wish to endorse the continued breeding of these dogs."

First of all, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not the same as King Charles Spaniels. The problems to which this ignoramus refers are not characterised in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels but in King Charles Spaniels. Yet she wants the unaffected breed eliminated.

Secondly, interested parties have been taking steps for some years, since the health problems amongst King Charles Spaniels emerged, to breed out the problems.

There has been MUCH progress made, and surely anyone. but a power-crazed eugenicist jumping on a bandwagon for her own prejudicial benefit would not only be aware of that fact, but would also appreciate that calling for the elimination of an entire breed, which is amongst the most wonderful of all dogs, is not only draconian but also antithetical to the interests of the animals themselves.

The fact that Ms Newkirk is so ignorant that she doesn't even know of the distinction between Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (who do NOT exhibit the physical features she has alluded to in her appeal to The King) and King Charles Spaniels (who did but which are being bred out as stated above), demonstates how dangerous it is to have the President of Peta windbagging her way into territory she has no knowledge of while misusing her position to call for the elimination of a whole breed of pet.

I will remind Ms Newkirk that Peta stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. How ethical is it to call for the elimination of a breed, especially when the problems to which she refers have either been misattributed to another breed, or in the alternative, are being dealt with?

In my view, Ms Newkirk is guilty not only of ignorance, but of grandstanding, to make a political, headline grabbing point which might further her own interests, but certainly does not further the interests of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, King Charles Spaniels, and their owners.

Not only is Ingrid Newkirk's "call" based upon ignorance, but it is also redolent of eugenics, an ideology that has rightly been discredited on the basis that breeds, whether animal or human, should be eliminated when it becomes apparent that there are problems within them. I will remind Ms Newkirk that it was this principle that led to the Holocaust in Europe as well as to massive starvation in the Soviet Union when applied to human beings. Now she calls for the equivalent within one of the most wonderful breeds of animal.

Her grandstanding, while make a political, headline grabbing point, has completely ignored the realities and complexities of the situation. Which right-thinking, responsible or scrupulous individual would call for the elimination of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, or even of King Charles Spaniels, who are amongst the most loving beings on this earth, when the former don't suffer from the problems she has attributed to them, and the latter are having the problems bred out?

I'm awfully sorry, but I can't help seeing similarities between Ms Newkirk's calls of the elimination of those wonderful animals, and the crimes against humanity which tainted so much of twenieth century life as a result of eugenics. Or does she think it's okay to adopt a discredited ideology to eliminate a breed of dog (and the wrong one at that), just because they're dogs?

Ms Newkirk' s call for the eradication of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels is not only a vast overrreach of her self-appointed role as protector of animals - quite a contradiction in terms when she cares about them so much that she wants them wiped off the face of this earth in what is clearly a new form of of the descredited concept of eugenics - but also displays absolute ignorance of the health issues which did, indeed, emerge over the years, but which have been and are being dealt with with a responsibility which she patently lacks and is also unaware of.

I therefore call upon King Charles III to vigorously and decisively reject Ms Newkirk's ignorant stab at introducing later-day canine eugenics, and wonder whether she would have stooped to such a low blow had the word King not been a part of the breed's name. Somehow, I suspect not.
