Zwei Tage an der Jahrestagung der Bergsteigerdörfer in Gschnitz mit Präsentation der Studie "SAC-Hütten 2050“. Interessante Referate und eindrückliche Zeugen der Unwetter von Ende Juni diesen Jahres.
AT the end of the #CCIA group meeting, following the Geneva tradition, the "Marmit" had to be destroied by the oldest and the yougest memember of the group. We were succesfull (after a second try).
Shock to the system 🥶
Unusually strong cold is pouring south out of the Arctic into Europe right now. This is an ideal setup for deep fresh snow accumulations in the Alps and flooding in Central Europe.
This is about as cold as it gets this early in September.
Today I successfully defended my #PhD thesis at the #University of #Geneva. An important periode of my life spproaches the end. Thanks to all who supported my work, especially Markus Stoffel and Simon Allen.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Korea National Park Service and introducing them to the SAC's strategies in the fields of alpine rescue and dealing with climate change impact on huts and trails.
🌊 Val d'Orco flooding 🌊
Nothing short of shocking... 😱
Noasca (1065 m asl) in Val d'Orco (TO, NW Italy) has recieved 149 mm on 29th June
Recurrence of extreme events will make life impossible in the Alpine valleys and profoundly change their morphology

(Daten MeteoSchweiz)
On 10 April 2024, the Swiss #Climate and #GlobalChange science community met for the 24th time at the annual Swiss Global Change Day #SGCD24. About 180 participants attended the event and 60 posters were exhibited.

Over the last few days we have been trying to determine the location of a potential tailings / mine waste dam failure that was posted onto social media. This is the video on Youtube. It is amazing: https://t.co/XLr6RYvI6R
Another blow for Swiss #glaciers in 2023! @glamos_ch measurements indicate that >4% of the remaining ice was lost, combined with 2022 this is 10% in 2 years. The two worst years since measurements started in a row. Just mind-blowing...
