Happy to revive the Indian Social Science Review (ISSR), a Multidisciplinary journal of ICSSR, with a Special Issue on “Understanding India’s Demographic Shift: Trends, Transitions and Policy Perspectives.”
We invite researchers, academicians and social scientists across Bharat to contribute rigorous, evidence-based and policy-relevant research articles that can enrich India’s demographic discourse, inform policymaking and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
India is witnessing a profound demographic transformation, driven by changing fertility, rising life expectancy, population ageing, migration, evolving family and marriage patterns, changing labour markets, and advances in education, health and technology.
These changes are not merely matters of population statistics; they are the key forces and factors shaping the future of Bharat, its families, communities, workforce, social cohesion, inter-generational relationships and development trajectory.
In the present context, informed and evidence-based demographic debates are essential to anticipate emerging challenges, understand their wider social consequences and develop policies that strengthen Bharat.
This Special Issue provides an interdisciplinary platform to examine the drivers, dimensions and consequences of India’s demographic transformation and their implications for family, society, economy, governance and national development.

A meaningful initiative by the University of Delhi’s Centre for Independence and Partition Studies (CIPS) to remember the suffering, sacrifices and resilience of those who endured the horrors of Partition.
Hon’ble Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan Ji rightly emphasised that remembering Partition is not about reopening old wounds, but ensuring that history is never forgotten.
Our Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh Sir, preside over the programme, reaffirming DU’s commitment to preserving historical memory and educating future generations.
Remember the past. Honour the survivors. Educate the future.

On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Jamia Millia Islamia proudly celebrated the spirit of freedom, unity and our shared national identity.
The celebration was graced by Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, Hon’ble Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, as the Chief Guest, along with Prof. Mazhar Asif, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, and other distinguished dignitaries from the Ministry of MSME.
In my address, I highlighted that the independence, we enjoy today was achieved through the supreme sacrifices and valour of countless freedom fighters. The British came to India as traders, and following the Battle of Plassey in 1757, gradually expanded their political control and pursued policies of division and divide and rule.
The dream of our freedom fighters was not merely to free Bharat from colonial rule, but to build a nation founded on unity in diversity—where hundreds of communities and castes, and people belonging to all religions, could live together with mutual respect, harmony and brotherhood.
Youth always plays important role in nation building, and they are the main contributor in Viksit Bharat.
On this historic occasion, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the entire Jamia fraternity and all our fellow countrymen. Let us honour the sacrifices of our freedom fighters by strengthening the unity, integrity and fraternity of our great nation.
Jai Hind! 🇮🇳
