The @IFRC has launched an Emergency Appeal for CHF 25 million to support @NepalRedCross following the devastating flash floods in northern Nepal.

Nepal Red Cross teams have been on the ground since the immediate aftermath of the floods. The 24-month IFRC Emergency Appeal will support shelter, cash assistance, health, relief items, water and sanitation, mental health and psychosocial support, restoring family links, and longer-term recovery.

IFRC is mobilizing its network to support Nepal Red Cross as the response evolves.

After years of earthquakes, floods, and landslides, the @NepalRedCross & @IFRC are working together on a long-term recovery plan that goes beyond immediate relief and towards sustainable and resilient livelihoods, health, and WASH systems. 🌱

The plan will cover areas in Jajarkot, Rukum West, Bagmati, Kavre, Ilam, and Jhapa districts in Nepal, aiming to restore the safety and dignity of more than 10,000 people.

Under the theme “Local, Everywhere”, the IFRC Global Plan 2026, launched today, focuses on enabling community-led, globally supported action that delivers faster, more trusted, and cost-efficient outcomes. 

Humanitarian needs are growing at an unprecedented pace. Between 2020 and 2024, disasters affected close to 700 million people, caused over 100 million displacements, and killed over 270,000 people. The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance has more than doubled, from 192 million in early 2020 to over 433 million by the end of 2024.

With 115 new cases in the last 24 hours and indications that cholera may be spreading from Parsa to Bara District, @ifrc and @nepalredcross remain hard at work in connection with @mohps, @whonepal and provincial and local authorities to bring this outbreak to a halt.

The Madhesh drought is not very visible until you try the deep bore hand pumps in underserved communities (Dalits, Muslims, etc.). Instead, they are drinking irrigation/surface water contaminated with arsenic. @ifrc/@NepalRedCross are combining short and long-term intervention.

Heatwaves are the silent killers of the climate crisis.

Across Europe, these episodes are becoming hotter, longer, and more frequent. The warming trend shows no sign of slowing, with extreme heat currently gripping parts of the continent, fueling severe wildfires and forcing thousands to evacuate in countries such as Greece, Spain, France, and Portugal.

The @IFRC network across Europe is working closely with communities to prepare for and reduce the risks of extreme heat by:
- developing anticipatory action plans for extreme heat and heatwaves,
- conducting community awareness sessions informing people of potential risks,
- mobilizing volunteers’ network to provide care for the most vulnerable

Everyone has a role to play in tackling the climate crisis. The time to act is now.

With support from @ifrc DREF, @NepalRedCross has launched its response to the Madhesh drought emergency. We will serve 60,000 people in 4 districts (Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, and Sarlahi) with water trucking, deep boreholes and health and hygiene promotion.

In Myanmar, the seasonal overlap of cyclones and monsoon rains have impacted an already dire humanitarian situation. With the rains, conditions are worsening dramatically for displaced communities still sleeping in the open or in makeshift structures.

The @IFRC together with @MyanmarRedCross, continues to provide vital support, including multi-purpose cash assistance, shelter repair and transitional shelter, as well as providing livelihood grants, to help people rebuild their lives.

In Nepal, the @NepalRedCross continues to spread awareness and action on extreme heat with various innovative events and programs.

Nepal Red Cross Society organised a school-level drawing competition held on the occasion of #HeatActionDay.

A total of 28 students from 14 schools who are also members of #JuniorYouthRedCrossCircles participated in the competition. Participants also learned about heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
