Alfadhel Syndrome, a disease discovered by a Saudi team, has received official recognition and listing in OMIM. OMIM is a prestigious disease database operated by Johns Hopkins University, a highly respected institution in the field of genetics.

The discovery was made by a team of Saudi researchers from King Abdullah Children’s Specialist Hospital (KACSH) and the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (#KAIMRC). Led by Professor Majid Alfadhel the team successfully described and substantiated the existence of this syndrome, subsequently publishing their findings in a prestigious scientific journal. As a result of their research, similar cases have been identified across various countries worldwide.
In honor of Professor Alfadhel’s exceptional contribution, the syndrome was named after him. It is worth mentioning that Individuals affected by Afadhel Syndrome exhibit distinct facial features and may experience mental retardation as well as delayed speech development. The
discovery by Professor Alfadhel and his team has shed light on a previously unknown disease, providing valuable insights for further study.
