🇨🇳 China just torched the U.S. AI lead in a single afternoon.

Moonshot AI, a little-known Beijing startup, dropped Kimi K3 on Thursday and it instantly kicked into the top tier of global models.

It beat Anthropic's Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol on coding tests, then edged out Opus 4.8 on a broader ranking while costing 40% less.

Now the knockout blow. On July 27, Moonshot is giving Kimi away as open-weight, so any company or government on Earth can download it and run it on their own machines. No subscription, no permission slip.

For months U.S. labs slept fine telling themselves China was 6 to 12 months behind. That head start just evaporated.

And Kimi doesn't even need to be the best model to win. Near the top, 40% cheaper, and yours to keep is what most buyers actually want.

That's the nightmare in Silicon Valley. The trillion-dollar valuations and hundred-billion-dollar data centers all rest on one bet: U.S. stays ahead.

Kimi just kicked that out from under them.

This is the website Google would rather you not find, Meta actively lobbies against, data brokers have tried to discredit for years, and the entire advertising industry treats as a direct threat to their business model.

It has been online since 2019. It takes no affiliate money. It runs no ads. Journalists cite it. Security researchers trust it.

Here's how it works.

Privacy Guides is a curated recommendation list. The site itself sells nothing.

It just tells you which private tool actually replaces every surveillance product in your life, tested by security researchers and updated every month, organized into 40+ categories with the exact reason each pick was chosen.

❗️ Anthropic tried to charge a Korean user who was on the free plan with zero API usage $16.6 million. A day earlier, the same invoice was $1.67 million, so it grew roughly 10x overnight.

The user says he suspected phishing at first, then found the sender and payment link were Anthropic's official domain. His bank declined the charge attempts for exceeding the card's per-transaction limit...

A 19-year-old hacker used VPNs, tunneling tools, and rotated IPs across 3 countries. The FBI still caught him. Here's the Windows feature that made it possible and why it should concern everyone.

Peter Stokes, an alleged member of Scattered Spider (the group behind $100M+ in ransomware extortion), was arrested at Helsinki Airport this April. Court documents revealed a key piece of evidence: Microsoft's GDID.

What is a GDID?
GDID = Global Device Identifier. It's a unique code baked into every Windows installation. Microsoft uses it for telemetry, crash reports, feature usage, and license verification (it's why swapping your CPU can break your Windows activation).

What Microsoft gave the FBI:
→ Web activity with timestamps
→ Gaming history
→ IP addresses used over time
→ Tool usage (including Ngrok, a tunneling app)
→ Azure account activity

All tied to one persistent device fingerprint. Even though the VPN masked his IP, it didn't affect the GDID.

How they connected the dots:
Every time Stokes logged in to Snapchat, Apple, or Facebook from a new IP address, the GDID was there too. Investigators matched timestamps across platforms and countries: Tallinn, New York, Thailand, Germany. Different IPs. Same machine. Same person.

Microsoft had already identified him in October 2024 and filed a criminal referral. He was still 17. So they waited till He turned 18. Then they moved.

Yes, Stokes is accused of serious crimes. But the GDID data exists on every Windows machine, including yours. The infrastructure that handed his entire digital life to the FBI is the same infrastructure running on your laptop right now.

The unanswered questions:
- There's no public policy on when Microsoft shares GDID data

- No known opt-out mechanism

- No transparency report specifically covering GDID disclosures

- What other criminal referrals has Microsoft quietly filed?

BREAKING: 🇩🇪🇺🇦 Officially, Ukraine carried out the attack on Nord Stream and plunged Germany into an energy crisis, according to a German court.

Germany has formally charged Ukrainian national Serhii K., an officer of the Ukrainian army at the time of the incident, with being an accomplice to a war crime over the 2022 Nord Stream Pipeline attack.

The attack destroyed 3 of the 4 pipelines that deliver Russian natural gas to Germany.

The charges include acting as an accomplice in a war crime by carrying out attacks on civilian energy infrastructure, causing an explosion, destroying infrastructure, and disrupting public utilities.

German prosecutors claim that the officer, along with other military personnel, was "acting on behalf of state bodies in Ukraine" and had created the plan to destroy the Nord Stream Pipelines to prevent Russian gas deliveries. Serhii allegedly led the Ukrainian team of up to 7 people and piloted the sailing yacht, which was used to carry out the attack.

German media say the evidence is "overwhelming" and includes phone calls where he incriminated himself in intercepted phone calls, although Serhii has denied involvement.

Serhii was arrested on August 21, 2025, in Italy, was extradited to Germany in November 2025, and has been in pre-trial detention ever since.

This is the first time Germany has brought the Nord Stream case to court.

This is not the model that got banned.
