An intelligent sobriety, which forces us to slow down and think about exactly what we are doing. A way to also get closer with biodiversity, our true essence.
La sobriété n’est plus une petite vertu éthique, elle devient une urgence qui nous concerne tous dans notre relation à la planète. https://t.co/R4Oq9oivvw

Science now says more than half of all species on earth live in soil. So why do we pay fertilizer and pesticide companies to wage chemical warfare on them? They call it agriculture but it's really ecocide. Time to bring legal charges against firms making our planet unliveable

Chocolate firms from wealthier countries are exploiting farmers in Africa who produce the majority of the world's chocolate 🍫 .
Farmers in Ghana🇬🇭 and Côte d'Ivoire 🇨🇮 , which produce more than 60% of the world's cocoa, are imprisoned in abject poverty and get only 6% of the sector's income. Surviving on less than a dollar a day.
While indulgent chocolate corporations like Hershey, Lindt, and Nestlé revel in their exorbitant profits, a damning report by Oxfam International has revealed a distressing reality: up to 90% of cocoa growers in Ghana are now submerged in even deeper poverty than before the pandemic.
The report also reviewed, 90% of cocoa growers in Ghana do not make enough money to cover even their most basic necessities, such as food and shelter.
Meanwhile, the world's four largest chocolate companies—Nestle, Hershey, Lindt, and Mondelez—have collected a stunning $15 billion in profits since 2020.
According to astute analysts, predatory techniques reminiscent of colonialism still exist inside these supply chains.
Cocoa farmers frequently sell their prized beans to local collectives, who then sell them to dealers, who then supply them to chocolate behemoths primarily based in Europe and the United States.
However, these supply networks operate with remarkable inconsistency, consistently supporting the unquenchable avarice of the chocolate giants.
Recognizing the terrible situation, Ghana and the Ivory Coast developed the living income differential scheme to ensure that farmers receive a minimum price for their cocoa.
According to the survey, most Ghanaian farmers receive only 10% of this fair payment, which equates to $40 for a whole year of backbreaking labor.
Such heinous exploitation continues because the chocolate behemoths have fought the program tooth and nail, obtaining cocoa from alternate sources or outright refusing to pay.

Mostly, the value of nature is only recognized when it brings us relief and one is directly affected by it. However, nature does much more for humanity than some want to admit. 💚🌿🌲🌳🌱☘️🍀💚
