The New York Times has recently written an exposé regarding Amazon's HR tech crisis. Amazon has had issues with its tech system that handles unpaid and paid leaves. This crisis has left a negative impact on a large number of Amazon employees #rucrisiscom
Many employees found themselves unable to pay their bills as well as other unfortunate consequences. The biggest lesson learned from this crisis is that this crisis could happen to any organization that doesn't "give its technology and its people the attention they need"
Ozy Media's Collapse highlighted the importance of making sure that you know how to manage a crisis. They decided to shut down the company entirely after there was news released about their improper business conduct. #rucrisiscom
@LaygoClaudine For me, I find that social media has increased my mental health in that I get motivated and inspired by others but it can also turn negative when I compare myself with others on social media #selfsocietyclass
@JulesRutgers Social media has definitely affected the way we expect people to behave. I feel like social media has made people feel like they are behind in life compared to others because people are showing off their highlight reel and not their behind the scenes #selfsocietyclass
@YuknaLia I just checked my screen time and it is 9 hours which I am very surprised about! It has definitely increased during quarantine which makes sense. This class also made me consider my phone usage a ton! #selfsocietyclass
Now that we are almost done with a virtual semester, have you found that your internet addiction has decreased because you’re online more often or increased? #selfsocietyclass
@ericaandself I am also addicted to my phone and everytime I check my screen time I get so surprised!! I love how they have an option of setting time limits on apps to control the addiction and so that we can be aware of it! #selfsociety
@notdylanrusso I love this documentary!! It truly explains the concepts of this week really well. It really exemplifies the power social media has and how internet addictions and risks can have a negative impact on teens mental health. #selfsocietyclass
@JulesRutgers This is the perfect example of how oversharing on the internet can be very negative. I doubt she had any bad intentions when she said that, but the way it was portrayed is definitely what caused her to have backlash. #selfsocietyclass
This quote above from Livingstone’s article perfectly goes with this topic on how many things go along with feeling validated on social media. #selfsocietyclass
An example of a teenagers social media usage becoming a problem is when they’re are looking at their engagement (likes and comments) on posts for validation. This is super negative for mental health and a major problem teens face. #selfsocietyclass
“the adolescent must develop and gain confidence in an ego identity
that is simultaneously autonomous and socially valued, and that balances
critical judgement and trust, inner unity and acceptance of societal
expectations” (Livingstone, 2008). #selfsocietyclass
@rojas_an19 This is a perfect example of online harassment. I feel like this happens with many young celebs who turn 18. Many make jokes that are absolutely disgusting. It is so sad and creepy to see. I feel like it is happening more than ever now due to TikTok. #selfsocietyclass
@SharonK08535231 This is the perfect example of online harassment. It definitely exemplifies cancel culture as well. Jordyn got SO much hate from individuals and they were constantly sending her mean messages. It was so sad to see. #selfsocietyclass
@ericaandself I talked about a similar experience about how someone made an anon Instagram account in middle school to cyber bully people. It’s so sad and heartbreaking. It makes sense because middle school is typically the age when kids are presented with phones and tech. #selfsocietyclass
Because we live in such a digital connected world, it is SO important to shed light on online harassment as well as harassment in general because of the effect it has on individuals and their mental health especially! #selfsocietyclass
An example of online harassment that I have seen includes a time in middle school where someone made an Instagram Account pairing random people in our school as couples but it would be a joke essentially making fun of one of the individuals involved. #selfsocietyclass
Online harassment in a digital world truly shows how “Virtual reality can become reality, and it ruins your life.” (Gardner, 2016). Individuals who face online harassment get effected in their real life presences as well. #selfsocietyclass
