Downward spiral for the last 6 years from disaster to disaster. The club is being run by a clueless board dictating a business not a football club with the majority of deluded fans thinking it is all down to Mourinho. #Mufc#Whoisnext
Happy 4️⃣5️⃣th birthday to former #MUFC striker Zlatan Ibrahimović! 🥳🇸🇪
Throwback to when Zlatan produced THIS and had Sir Alex Ferguson reacting like the rest of us 😆👏
🚨 Jose Mourinho on Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola comparisons:
“Someone asked me this question before and I said, ‘Before I answer, tell me something. Where are we starting Alex Ferguson’s career?’
She said, ‘Manchester United.’
I said, ‘No, no. Then already we have a problem.’
People talk about Ferguson and immediately they see Old Trafford. The trophies, Cantona, Beckham, Cristiano, Rooney, the Champions League.
I see Aberdeen first.
This is a man who went into Scotland when Celtic and Rangers were supposed to own everything.
He wins the league with Aberdeen.
Then he does it again.
And again.
Then apparently dominating Scotland with Aberdeen wasn’t difficult enough, so he goes into Europe.
Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid in the final.
European trophy.
Then the Super Cup.
I remember once joking with him, ‘Mister, you could have retired before Manchester United and still spent the rest of your life telling everybody you were a very good manager.’
He laughed and said something like, ‘I would’ve been bored.’
That tells you everything about him.
Because then he goes to Manchester United.
And people speak today as if he arrived at the Manchester United we all know now.
No.
They hadn’t won the league for 26 years.
So this man had already disturbed the natural order in one country, came to another country and apparently decided the natural order there needed disturbing too.
Thirteen league titles later, now everybody remembers United as the giant.
That is the funny thing about football.
Sometimes a manager becomes so successful that people eventually use the size of the club he helped build as an argument against what he achieved there.
So if you ask me to choose?
I remember Aberdeen.
Because before Ferguson had Manchester United, Manchester United had to go and find Ferguson.
And they found him in Scotland with a European trophy he’d just taken off Real Madrid.
For me, that changes the conversation completely.”
🚨 Sir Alex Ferguson on Manchester City being found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules:
“I read the news and the first person I thought about was Carlos Tevez.
Funny, isn’t it? After all these years.
We wanted Carlos to stay. David Gill spoke to his representatives, we made our offer, they said we’d left it too late and eventually he went across Manchester.
Then City put up that bloody ‘Welcome to Manchester’ poster.
I remember looking at it and thinking, ‘They haven’t just signed one of our players. They want us to know they can.’
That was when I called them a small club with a small mentality.
But there was something else happening around that period that people forget.
Suddenly City could walk into conversations for players that previously would have been choosing between United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Madrid, Barcelona.
I remember one summer hearing that Adebayor had agreed to join City, then apparently his people were still contacting us and Chelsea.
I thought, ‘What a strange situation. Players who would rather be somewhere else are signing for City anyway.’
At the time, you simply accepted that they had enormous financial power. You competed with it.
That’s football.
But if you then discover years later that rules were being broken during the period in which you’re trying to compete with that financial power, you’re entitled to look back differently.
Because people will say, ‘Ferguson was just angry because City became successful.’
No.
I was angry before they were successful.
I was standing there in 2009 watching them take Tevez, chase players everywhere and put his face on a building to celebrate taking him from us.
Imagine telling me then, ‘Alex, one day the Premier League will investigate how all of this was being financed.’
I’d probably have pointed at the poster and said, ‘You might want to start there.’
And that’s the part people miss when discussing what happened afterwards.
Once you change the financial strength of one club, you don’t only change that club.
You change where players go.
You change what everybody else has to pay.
You change which manager gets which footballer.
You change title races before the first ball is kicked.
People can spend the next twenty years asking whether this player would’ve joined United, whether that player would’ve joined Chelsea, whether somebody else would’ve gone to Arsenal.
Nobody can prove those alternate histories.
But I know this much.
When I was fighting them, I thought I was fighting Manchester City.
Apparently I should’ve brought an accountant.”
🚨🎙️ Roy Keane on Pro Ref admitting an error of judgment after Manchester City’s victory:
🗣️"Oh, brilliant. So Pro Ref have put out a statement to say they got it wrong? Give them a medal! What use is an apology to Manchester United now? City have got the three points in their back pocket, they’ve driven back down the road, and everyone at Stockley Park is washing their hands clean with a bloody statement on a Monday morning.
It’s absolute garbage. You have six officials on the pitch, state-of-the-art VAR technology, lines, monitors, slow-motion replays, and you still can’t make the right call in a match of this size? Then hours later, when the damage is already done, you issue a soft apology like that makes everything fine. It’s pathetic.
If a player makes a blunder like that, he gets dropped. If a manager makes a mistake, he gets sacked. But these referees can completely ruin a derby, hand three points to the opposition, issue a little statement saying 'sorry, we got it wrong,' and then go referee another game next weekend like nothing happened. It’s a complete joke."
