Spot the digger ๐ This camouflaged digger is busy zipping up drainage ditches on the far side of our site. This will reduce erosion and reset the surrounding peat ๐๐
The news is out! We're so proud of our wonderful volunteers for receiving the Kingโs Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS), the MBE-equivalent award for voluntary groups and all the amazing work that they do for Manx wildlife ๐ท #TeamWilder#KAVS2024 https://t.co/ObmuJtKeqM
Some before and after shots of a BIG. Peat pipe๐ This eroding area has been reprofiled and the pipe entrance blocked, creating a lovely pool that will slow the flow of water and be a great wildlife habitat ๐ฆ๐ฟ
While reading the latest @_BTO mag I was pleasantly surprised to find a refreshingly honest article from @BiosphereIOM ๐ฎ๐ฒ BTO Youth Rep @alexxkxng on the challenges of engaging young ppl with the natural world (not helped by the #Manx โ๏ธ๐จ๐ฅถ). Keep fighting the good fight! ๐

1/2 Cushag, our national flower๐ฎ๐ฒis in bloom. An important native plant for invertebrates, it can be dangerous to livestock, esp if it gets into hay/silage. Tynwald amended the law in 2013, removing the obligation to pull it, unless a notice is served on you. See the Cushag Code:
What a treat to spend the afternoon at Beinn-y-Phott โฐ๏ธ looking at the amazing work of @ManxPeat (Manx Peat Partnership). Theyโve achieved amazing things in a relatively short period and at reasonable cost too! ๐ #MyBiosphere#IsleOfMan belated #BogDay trip @manxnature
Fantastic 2 days at Port Erin for our #FestivalOfTheSea sponsored by @OceanWebLtd Wonderful marine creatures, excellent engagement with people about the sea & lots of visitors! Brilliant to have @ManxCetaceans join us in the tent this year too #manxnature#teamwilder ๐ฎ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ฆญ

The Garwick raw sewage outfall within the (supposedly) highly protected Laxey Bay Marine Nature Reserve @ 17:55, Sat 29 Jun โ24 (32yrs after the announcement of a solution)!๐ฝWhen will this disrespectful treatment of our citizens & natural environment finally end?! @BiosphereIOM
A guided walk around our newest @manxnature nature reserve Glion Darragh at West Baldwin this evening led by Andree, with our friends from Isle of Man Woodland Trust. A wonderful site and part of our wider Temperate Rainforest programme with @AvivaUK@WildlifeTrusts ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฒ๐ฒ
A monumental day that has been 3 years in the planning: with our first Wheatears tagged @CalfObs. Many thanks to those who supported this project, incl Curraghs Wildlife Park, Jenny & Andrew Moore and @lucyjayneryan for much advice and training. Here's hoping for lots of pings!
