@RahmaElmahdi @CeTompson I disagree with this mentality. We shouldn’t need to suffer to prove our worth. That creates an academically violent environment that eats away at student’s mental/emotional/physical wellness.
Academia should focus less on on the unhealthy choices that students make, and redirect its attention to what causes students to make these choices in the first place #HiEDPopCult
Following hashtags like #Academiclife just makes me realize how much we celebrate working ourselves to the point of exhaustion. Why is this a good thing? Why do we applaud this? #HiEDPopCult
@AnnaMeierPS I asked a question in my first graduate course and the professor responded “how is that useful? If no one has any worthwhile questions we’ll be moving on.” I never spoke in that class again.

By controlling the social media of student athletes universities are disproportionally silencing students of color: https://t.co/bpKmGyWcrp

@TheHoneyBeeBee That explains the practices that drive us to overwork ourselves, but why do we celebrate it? Why do we use our exhaustion as a signifier of our worth in academia? The level of mental, emotional, and physical fatigue that's required excludes so many. #HiEDPopCult
@celinenpopcult @TheHoneyBeeBee I feel that part of moving toward this goal is actively countering point 3: "They offer a promising first step for students seeking bachelor’s degrees" Once we begin celebrating CCs as an achievement, not a stepping-stone, I think we'll see that narrative change #HiEDPopCult

Many student athletes use sports and athletic scholarships as their access to education. Amid COVID-19, is our entertainment worth their health? #HiEDPopCult
Accessibility and Inclusion are 2 different things. Can students who use wheelchairs truly feel included, when their only accessibility to get to class is literally hidden behind the trash? Disability inclusion shouldn't be an after thought. (Parlin Hall - UT Austin) #HiEDPopCult
