I’m begging journalists to write pieces about the so-called “labor shortage” that actually involve asking workers who’ve left service industries about why they won’t return to low-paying jobs with no benefits and poor working conditions. Stop only interviewing business owners.
Tonight, I want you to draw and post for me - without looking at ANY references, no pictures, gifs, videos etc - an animal you definitely *should* know what it looks like:
A HORSE RUNNING
From passage of the #SB202 voter suppression bill targeted at Black and brown voters to the arrest of a Black legislator who was advocating for the voting rights of her constituents, today was a reminder of Georgia’s dark past. We must fight for the future of our democracy #gapol
"It's time that the federal government makes moves to increase affordable housing,” writes our Associate Director of Policy Research, Annika Olson. Read her CNN article on why it's difficult for millennials to buy a home, and what can be done about it. https://t.co/m5inwDiLcP
In most states that have not implemented the ACA #MedicaidExpansion, eligibility for parents & other adults remains extremely low.
It ranges from 17% of the federal poverty level ($3,733 for a family of three) in Texas to 100% FPL ($21,960) in Wisconsin. https://t.co/jWk2lgSa6F
I have received a lot of emails pushing back on this quote from my mother.
“A black child’s humanity can never be fully realized in the presence of whiteness”
Some of them were genuinely interested in understanding why this is not racist.
A thread:
This week, there is a coordinated attack on voting rights. GOP-led legislatures in GA, AZ & NH are pushing dozens of bills to make it harder for people of color & young people to vote. We voted in Nov & instead of listening, they are trying to shut us out of the process. 1/18
The motion to adjourn was just defeated, here is the final vote. 182 House Republicans voted to end business for the day at 10:30 a.m. rather than vote on a bill that would help get big money out of politics.
The House is voting today on a major ethics and election integrity bill, H.R. 1, that would strengthen ethics requirements on federal officeholders, increase election security, end partisan gerrymandering, protect Americans' voting rights, and help get big money out of politics.
I’ve heard enough complaints about the minimum wage. I was making 3 copper pieces a day selling hard boiled eggs to weary travelers on the Silk Road and it was eventually enough to purchase catapults, war elephants and 1,000 strong gladiators.
