@optimysticism Dig around on reddit, esp r/sneerclub and you should find so more details. As others have said, seems like this person is a user with TPO abbreviation.
@JohnPasalis The most effective way to decreased benefits and wages from the perspective of that loss aversion is freezing the dollar amount and letting inflation slowly eat away at it, then stepping in once that dollar amount is closer to something that makes fiscal sense.
@JohnPasalis It's tough to even talk about this topic. The reality is that this is a political dead end. I don't see any government lowering the amount at which the claw back starts. We know that humans have strong loss aversion, so we need to work within that constraint.
@polisisti do you buy the 'life is too expensive for millennials' line? I assume more than income/housing cost impacts the decision to have children. We know that women's educational attainment shifts birthrate way down but it's basically collapsing in western countries.
@BoomerandEcho @preetbanerjee Yeah these are strong points. Do you have an upshot for this? I guess don’t stretch to buy? Or retirement planning should come before ownership plans?
@angelohikebike@robyndoolittle@liberal_party Glad you’re thinking about solutions. I guess the worry is always that this will help out those already able to make big contributions. My thought was additional RRSP contribution room for those who don’t buy property, but there would be loopholes to close off.
@angelohikebike@robyndoolittle@liberal_party Not going to dispute those facts. I think we need to find a way to salvage the social contract. Most young people today don't see a future for themselves as decent as their parents. Higher home prices, higher tax contributions, higher CCP, fewer jobs with DB or DC pensions.
@angelohikebike@robyndoolittle@liberal_party Let alone to save for what will likely be an even more precarious retirement than the current generation retiring. Poor financial choices are, in the aggregate, something that exist for every generation, Govs need to plan for them with sound policy (like CPP2)
@angelohikebike@robyndoolittle@liberal_party but you can imagine it's frustrating when so much of their taxes go to, say, funding OAS where the clawback starts at 90k personal/180k couples income when they're paying over 50% of their salary to rent a 1bd condo. Leaves little to save for a $800k home purchase.
@GeneSohoForum@DLeonhardt Anyway. The book I’m taking this from is called The Wolf At The Door: The Menace of Economic Insecurity & How to Fight It by Ian Shapiro and Michael Graetz
@GeneSohoForum@DLeonhardt Contract work might work well for businesses, it’s essentially derisking. Gov needs to makeup for that massive insecurity b/c unionization is much harder with service sector work.
