FED REACTION FUNCTION
The Fed cannot cut here in response to an incoming destruction of losses.
Hard to see May cuts happen although Mr Market is pricing that.
The Fed does not want to ‘own’ tariffs which are inflationary, regressive, and a sales tax that hurts their policy objective.
However…
As soon as labor market softens and you get a bad NFP print, Fed will over-compensate and cut aggressively.
Because job losses are deflationary.
However, Trump should pivot before hand.
His tweet to buy stocks was also seen on Dec 24 2018 - just before the Dec 26
2018 bottom.
Trump’s phone is undoubtedly ringing off the hook and @SecScottBessent is losing his credibility as a mouthpiece now.
Tactically, where we are now, better to orient long.
There is a 3 day window of risk.
If Trump stays the course, S&P could bottom around 4500 or 17x PE.
If Trump pivots, then the lows are around here.
Regardless, in one year’s time, stock prices should be up 20% give or take.
*Delta went up 8% despite offering no guidance*
That suggests discretionary names, at least airlines, have priced in a recession.
Some sectors like quality defensive tech have already priced in a recession.
And we are buying there.
Note: Not all sectors are priced for recession unfortunately, so the positioning matters.
You should be long biased here. Not full port and not levered. But long biased.
If there is a 3 day dip, then you have a chance for full port.
Earnings season is a natural lift to markets.
Also, if Trump stays the course 2008 type scenarios are on the table.
But, even so, you should get strong reflexive bounces to derisk into from current levels.

I see no future world where @LumidaWealth doesn't disrupt the wealth management industry.
We have the talent, the AI, the performance, the grind mindset.
Give me a couple years.
Non-Consensus:

The opportunity cost of finding the remote…

We have crossed the Rubicon.

Non-Consensus:
Got a 2x bagger in $APP in 6 months
Why? The trifecta:
1) Multiple expansion
2) Earnings Growth
3) Variant Perception
This Non-Consensus framework runs rent free in my mind.
I usually have no idea price target per se but a clear sense of upside vs downside.
And I cut losers like $SMCI $PAGS or $REGN quickly.
I believe you can be right only 60% of the time and do very well if you apply this approach.
You are pulling weeds and watering flowers as Peter Lynch 🐐 used to say.
That’s essentially what big quant funds are doing except over thousands of securities.
‘Be the casino, not the player’
We also seeking to generate ideas better than what we own all the time.
Those ideas are competing for capital.
That forces extremely tough trade-offs.
And those ideas are from different industry groups and factor exposures.
When you are forced to sell something you love for something you don’t own, but want to own, it sharpens the mind.
That activity of continuous research and competition of ideas levels up the portfolio.
At year end, I hope to create audited returns so you can judge for yourself.

CHINA DUMP?
China’s $FXI is now down 9% today.
Two weeks ago, I wrote that (1) China’s momentum has one to two weeks to run AND (2) we’ll some narrative around how stimulus isn’t enough
in the @LumidaWealth Lumida Ledger
That’s exactly how it has played out.
The GS narrative hit the day before the sell-off.
Excerpt:
‘Is it worth buying into China now? Not really. I’d wait for a pullback.
My style is not to invest in parabolas, and that’s what I see here.
There are a lot of momentum monkeys trying to buy into China now.
We are selling into that strength.
That momentum bet has less than a week or two left in the tank and then we’ll pull back.
We’ll see some narrative around how China’s stimulus isn’t enough or must be backed by stronger fiscal supports’
If you aren’t subscribed to the ledger, you’re behind the curve.
Better yet, sign up as a client.
Lowering our minimum to $3 MM for this month, with exceptions for Founders where we will go $1 MM.
Fun Fact: The vast majority of our clients are Founders.
It makes sense. They are Non-Consensus and want to minimize taxable gains impact from concentrated positions.
I don’t talk about tax enough.
There’s really no reason you should be paying capital gains if you have good tax shield strategies.
