Putin says he sometimes watches Western television just to understand what European audiences are being shown. And what he sees is “mass deception.”

He gives a recent example. After an attack on Starobelsk that killed civilians, including children, Russia struck targets in the Kiev region in response.

According to Putin, Western channels spent the entire day showing the Russian strikes: the destruction, the damage, the “Russian aggressor.”

But not a word about what happened in Starobelsk before that. Not a word about the dead children.

Then the narrative moves to Ukrainian drones, their military successes and how much those weapons cost. The message to European viewers follows naturally: pay more.

Putin’s point is simple, and I completely agree with him: if you show the response while erasing what preceded it, you are manufacturing the story your audience is allowed to see.

It’s ridiculous that we even have not guilty by reason of insanity as a verdict option in a murder trial. Most murderers are insane definitionally on some level. Why should society care?

The jury’s options should be:

You did it and you meant to

You did it but you didn’t mean to (manslaughter)

You did it, but it was justified (self-defense etc)

You didn’t do it.

Not guilty by reason of insanity seems like the outgrowth of a society that’s looking for excuses not to punish criminals.

Tensions boil over in Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta as residents tear apart a makeshift migrant camp on a beach, throwing belongings into the sea and setting debris on fire while waving Spanish flags.

Protesters block a nearby road and chant "kick out invaders" as migrants watch from a distance.

The confrontation comes weeks after a massive July 30 border crossing from Morocco.

Authorities say 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta after at least 72,000 crossed that day, with 82 migrants killed on the Spanish side of the border and Morocco confirming another 14 deaths.
