This is the right forearm of Michelangelo's Moses (c. 1513-1515) statue.

The arrow points to a small muscle called the extensor digiti minimi, which only contracts when the pinky is lifted, otherwise it is invisible.

Most of Michelangelo's sculptures are painstakingly detailed and you can clearly see his obsession with the human body, which he saw as a physical representation of the soul. Michelangelo always preferred sculpting over painting.

And while he was extremely dedicated to his craft, Michelangelo was also human. One of my favorite letters of all time is the one in which he writes to Giovanni da Pistoia (a member of the Florentine Academy) while painting the Sistine Chapel.

"I've already grown a goiter from this torture,
swollen up here like a cat from Lombardy
(or anywhere where the stagnant water's poison). My stomach's squashed under my chin, my beard's pointing at heaven, my brain's crushed in a casket, my breast twists like a harpy's. My brush, above me all the time, dribbles the paint so my face makes a fine floor for droppings!

And because I'm like this, my thoughts are crazy perfidious tripe: anyone shoots badly through a crooked blowpipe.

Every morning, they would calibrate the machines by taking an X-ray of their hands. So you might be wondering, why not just use something else to test the X-ray? Like a piece of meat or a chicken leg? Well back in 1900, people didn't know the dangers of radiation exposure so they thought it would be harmless to use their hands. During this time, people could even purchase and build their own X-ray at home for entertainment purposes. Those who did, however, often went on to develop cancer or suffer from amputations.

The X-ray had been discovered just a few years before in 1895 by a man name Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, a German mechanical engineer and physicist. He named it X-ray because he actually didn't have a name for his invention and decided to use the mathematical designation "x" for something unknown. In some European countries, X-rays are actually called Röntgen rays.

Röntgen did not seek patents for his discoveries because he wanted society to benefit from the practical applications of X-rays. In 1901, Röntgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics.

Another day, another viral TikTok with incredible brand response.

This woman bought a rain jacket from @thenorthface and was hiking in the rain in Australia where she complained she was absolutely soaked despite the rain jacket saying it was waterproof.

Her request?

Meet me at the top of the mountain and bring me a new coat.

The video got 10.3M views.

The team at North Face quickly replied with a video showing a guy grabbing a new jacket at the North Face store, jumping on a helicopter and bringing it to Jenn.

Another example of great social listening + speed to response!

This is a masterclass in turning a unsatisfied customer into millions of impressions with positive brand sentiment.

For 1 454 days I posted that the Springboks were World Champions, without missing a single day.

It’s been a grind. But hugely enjoyable.

But now I face the daunting task of doing it again for another four years…

You BEST BELIEVE I will be continuing!
