In France we did everything your progressive politicians promise. Free healthcare, free college, generous welfare, strong unions, heavy regulation, high taxes on the rich, a state that takes care of everything. Public spending close to 57% of GDP, one of the highest on the planet. On paper, it’s the dream.

Here’s what it looks like from the inside. France hasn’t passed a balanced budget since 1974. Our debt is above 3,300 billion euros. Interest on that debt is becoming one of the biggest items in the national budget. Our hospitals are collapsing despite record funding. Our schools rank lower every year. Young people with degrees can’t afford an apartment in the city they were born in. Our best engineers leave for London, Zurich and San Francisco. And the rich you wanted to tax? They left too, and took the jobs with them.

The promise was protection. The result is stagnation.

The worst part is that nobody in France voted for decline. Every single step sounded generous, compassionate, reasonable. One more program. One more regulation. One more tax to fund it. Each step alone makes sense. Fifty years of them, and you wake up in a country that can no longer build a nuclear plant on time or keep its streets safe.

I love America because it’s the one place on earth where people still believe they can build something from nothing. I came to Silicon Valley as a self-taught kid and it changed my life. That spirit is the most precious thing your country has.

Before you vote, ask yourself one question: is the program you’re voting for making America more like America, or more like France?

Trust me. You don’t want to be France.

现年50岁的女化学工程师 Rong Yuan 从2017年开始不断出现脱发、呕吐等症状，多次被送往医院急诊，甚至专程飞往中国求医，却始终找不到病因。直到2019年，她怀疑有人在自己的饮用水中动手脚，于是从亚马逊购买了一台隐蔽摄像头，安装在办公室。

监控画面显示，同事 David Xu 曾多次接近她的水瓶，其中2019年3月4日的视频清楚拍到他将某种物质倒入瓶中。警方调查发现，Xu 长期在她的食物和饮用水中投放有毒重金属镉，持续超过一年。检测显示，水瓶中的镉浓度最高竟达到美国联邦饮用水标准的350万倍。

2019年3月，Xu 被捕，被控谋杀未遂及两项重罪投毒罪，最高可能面临终身监禁。然而，检方后来与他达成认罪协议，撤销谋杀未遂及其中一项投毒指控。Xu 对剩余一项投毒罪选择不抗辩，2024年最终被判处两年缓刑，实际仅被关押一天。

今年3月，Xu 已完成缓刑，并进一步向法院申请撤销重罪定罪记录。

这也正是监控视频直到现在才公开的原因。 10月10日，受害者 Rong Yuan 首次公开讲述自己的遭遇，并主动向<旧金山标准报>等媒体提供了2019年拍摄的监控录像。

Rong Yuan 对当年的轻判结果极为不满。她表示，投毒至今仍给自己留下长期健康问题，导致她无法全职工作。她尤其担心，一旦 Xu 的撤销定罪申请获准，未来雇主可能无法通过普通背景调查查出他的犯罪记录。

10月12日，Xu 的撤销定罪申请安排在加州阿拉米达县高等法院审理，检方已对申请提出反对。Rong Yuan 希望通过公开视频，让社会重新关注这起案件。她说：“这个司法制度已经让我失望了，这是我最后的办法。”
