I visited LAIKA a few years back and saw some sets and characters from this film and was blown away by the scale and artistry. An animated film has never been nominated for Production Design or Cinematography because most voters don’t understand how animation works but the level of cinematic craftsmanship is undeniable

It’s not exactly a new discussion around his productions either. Guo has previously spoken openly about putting actors on meals with “no oil, no salt and no sugar,” saying he would force them to eat it and, if they refused, repeatedly tell them “you’re really too fat.” Esther Yu and Jin Jing also notably lost weight while filming My Journey to You directed by Guo.

Of course changing your appearance for a role can be part of acting... but where should the line be when actors who are already thin by normal standards are being pushed to lose even more weight 🤔
