Stuff I use for drawing that I think are super useful:
•angleref . com - ENDLESS angled face refs
•Sketchfab - 3D models of characters (to check every little detail, rotate em) OR 3D dioramas for bgs
•Justsketchme - poses! (Yes I also trace em to get perfect anatomy) --
This is probably the biggest moment of my life 😭 After 4 years, the Game UI Bible has finally launched for all the world to see. A 400+ page tome of Game UI/UX goodness, celebrating all the weird and wonderful intricacies of this field.
From a thorough history of UI in games, to games that break all the rules, to Nintendo's forward-thinking approach to interfaces, and UI's influence on branding and meme culture.
Not only that, I got to interview the legendary designers who have worked on some of the most iconic games of all time, giving a deep dive on each one. Fortnite! Half-Life Alyx! The Batman Arkham Trilogy! LittleBigPlanet! Tunic! We have them all!
I am SO proud of this book, and for you all to read it!
A lot of people are in disbelief that this took me an hour, if you're unfamiliar with my work this might seem like a fully rendered illustration, but my usual work is much more detailed and my linework is much cleaner.
The reason why I'm able to be so fast is because especially in Japanese fandom circles on Twitter there use to be 60min challenge fanart accounts where the account posted a daily or weekly prompt and everyone had exactly an hour to draw something and the account shared it once time was up. We had around 15-20 mins of leeway but anyone who was late was ignored. This was an incredible way of training yourself and for improvement, not to mention networking. I wish we could bring them back.
I made a site for artists to get museum-level references since Pinterest has been a bit frustrating lately.

you must create because the thing you’d make doesn’t exist anywhere else. nobody has your exact combination of experiences and wounds and obsessions, which means the work only you could make is genuinely irreplaceable. if you don’t make it, it simply never exists. the world just goes without it, never knowing what it missed. that’s the most exciting thing about being you. the thing is waiting and you’re the only door it has.
this problem goes away when you treat your ideas as throwaway garbage that exist only as a starting point for the creative process. when you fall in love with what's in your head, there's no incentive to make it real
