JUST IN: A 38-year-old Namibian woman has been arrested after police allegedly found cannabis and 17,717 Mandrax tablets worth an estimated N$2.23 million in her possession at Goreagab, Windhoek.
The arrest was made on Saturday at about 06:50 during a police search, according to the Namibian Police Force.
Police seized 10.215kg of suspected cannabis, locally known as “madjaat”, together with the Mandrax tablets.
The drugs have an estimated combined value of N$2,228,970.
The suspect is facing a charge of contravening the Abuse of Dependence-Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act of 1971, specifically dealing in prohibited dependence-producing substances.
She is also facing a charge under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
Police said investigations into the matter are continuing.
