This Thursday, the 15th of August, we have a by-election in Hillrise.
Vote for Shreya Nanda, the Labour candidate, for:
🦺 Safer public spaces
🏥Support for the NHS and the Whittington Hospital
🏘️Clear action on more affordable and well maintained housing
Change doesn't happen unless you vote for it.
Islington North needs a Labour MP and Labour Government to change things for the better for our community.
Thank you for support 🌹
Thank you @ChefTomKerridge for your kind words!
Tom and I are passionate about skills and unlocking the potential of people across the country.
Our further education colleges have suffered harsh cuts under Tory governments. It is FE colleges that provide the vital vocational skills like those needed in hospitality.
To grow our economy we need to invest in people.
As Islington North's Labour MP I will fight for our young people to have the best opportunities.
Pens, pencil cases, books taken home and used for homework and revision. Every child can do this given the right support. Agree it’s about believing and having high expectations for every young person.
Got no patience for the "just give them a pen" crew.
Teacher's Standard #1 is literally to set high expectations.
If you lower the bar on something as obvious and non-controversial as "having the right equipment" it's a big old red flag for other stuff.
I have been overwhelmed by the support from Labour members and supporters, including Labour legend @HarrietHarman, over the past few weeks.
We have taken nothing for granted and are working hard for every vote.
Because change doesn't happen if we don't vote for it.
14 years of Tory cuts have decimated our youth clubs and worsened crime on our streets.
Labour will invest in youth hubs and as your Labour MP, I will campaign for one here in Islington North.
Labour's plan for the NHS will create 40,000 extra appointments a week to cut waiting times.
The Whittington Hospital is one of many hospitals that will also hugely benefit from Labour's funding for more MRI and CT scanners.
I am proud of our NHS and as your MP I will fight to protect the NHS free at the point of use and campaign for better services.
Today we remember Jo Cox on what would have been her 50th birthday.
Her life and values will be remembered by us all, and celebrated at hundreds of Great Get Together events across the UK this weekend.❤️
#MoreInCommon
Today is the 7th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Finsbury Park Mosque in which Makram Ali was killed.
I spent some of today with his family. They are amazing people who worry that we haven’t yet learnt the lessons of where whipping up hatred can lead.
They are right.
It was great to sit down with the @islingtongztte to talk about my priority to fight for our NHS and my focus on the challenges facing our community.
I am proud of the huge campaign we have mobilised in a snap election. Every day Labour members are knocking on doors, making the case for change.
Let's get a Labour MP who can place us at the heart of a Labour government. https://t.co/8t3fYvIYqF
As postal ballots drop, we have been out speaking to voters about the issues important to them.
NHS waiting times, Tory cuts to schools, and housing costs come up again and again.
It's time for change.
It's time for a Labour government.
I want Islington North to be a part of that.
And a big thank you to @JewishLabour@labour4europe@uklabourdigital for joining us on the doorstep!
Today I’m thinking of Jo’s family and everyone who continues to grieve her 8 years on.
The positive impact she left on British politics and her legacy lives on.
Thank you to the great group of volunteers working hard to bring Labour's message of change across Islington North.
The past 14 years of Tory rule has done untold harm to our community. School cuts, long NHS waiting times and spiralling housing costs.
As your Labour MP, I'll be campaigning to make sure that Islington North has a strong Labour voice for the next 5 years.
This weekend will be the 8th anniversary of Jo’s murder. We’ll be marking it by celebrating her life & what would have been her coming 50th birthday! Our kids are putting on a mini concert of her favourite songs & we’ll be remembering all she meant to us and to so many others.
Rain didn’t stop play. One of many teams out campaigning for @UKLabour and @prafulnargund in Arsenal in Islington North today. Lots of Labour support.
Credit to my mum for my Klimt umbrella
Fantastic to welcome @Feargal_Sharkey to Monmouthshire.
When someone like Feargal endorses you, you know you will be held to account. So here's my pledge! If elected as your MP, I will do everything in my power to work with all the fantastic citizen groups to clean up our rivers
Rishi Sunak’s closest man in Wales was placing a hundred pound bet on the date of the election, just days before it was announced.
He’s now being investigated by the Gambling Commission.
Worth thinking about.
