Preparing for the next field season! Excited to finish sampling the multiple Flame-rumped/Lemon-rumped Tanagers hybrid zones and test our 3D printed models 🤩🇨🇴 (those rump feathers though 😮💨) @cdanielcadena @TropBioLab
Replicate avian hybrid zones reveal the progression of genetic and trait introgression through time | our latest, led by the amazing maria isabel castaño #cienciacriolla https://t.co/UwEk7nGdyL
🚨
Back on X to share that our paper with @AvispaTica at @TropBioLab was published @ScientificData! I wanted to learn bioinformatics during my first year PhD rotation, and we ended up doing the first long read de novo genome assembly of a whole order of insects! #Strepsiptera
In this paper we report the first long read de novo genome assembly and annotation for a male Xenos peckii and one of the smallest insect genomes reported up to date! We also assembled the mitogenome and identified two contigs with X-linked coverage patterns.
Exciting hybrid zone research on flame-rumped tanagers by @MariaCastanoGal including RNAseq of red, orange, and yellow feathers and carotenoid-related genes. #AOS_SCO23. Fascinating system, rockstar scientist!
Today we caught all these birds in the same locality. What lies behind the phenotype of the Flame and Lemon rumps? Stay tuned to know more 🤯 @TropBioLab @cdanielcadena
