Dyslexia advocates helped me see this clearly. Moms (mostly), affluent (often), who did all the "right" things-lots of reading w/ kids, resource-rich homes. Still, their kids could not read. Kids w/ dyslexia are the canaries in the coal mine. The core problem is core instruction.
