@VtranCommClass Vincent, Great analysis. I think Welles also used the heightened sense of paranoia in 1938 to his advantage in War of the Worlds. If it were peacetime probably more listeners would have disregarded the attack as real. #comm106
@srallen96 Do you think FDR successfully reached the American People with his Fireside chats, even though most newspapers and media outlets were against him? #comm106
FDR's 31 Fireside Chats "transcended the encumbrance of spatial distance" and spoke to the American people with a sense of dialogue in the form of dissemination in order to promote his New Deal during the financial crisis of the 1930's #perfectcombo#comm106
Our group got into the conversation of the most advanced and lifelike robot to date. Why create something like that in the first place. Sophia (the robot) is super scary and honestly I'm not really about it. I think I'm experience what Mcluhan would call a moral panic... #comm106
@jheekin1 Jess, I agree with Peters in his argument. Not sure if any medium of communication can avoid dialogism forever. I think own its own, these communications fall from dissemination. comm106
From Peters, "The intellectual history of communication is a record of the erotic complications of modern life". @FellyTheCommGuy thoughts on this? I'm not sure I agree with Peters because I don't believe eros is the foundation of our society. #comm106
@jheekin1 I think maybe because the United States has so much information streaming from its origin in the US we are caught up in our own culture. Another idea might be because the US has done an excellent job being a leader of culture than relates to many.
I wonder what it would have been like at the turn of the 20th century as prosthetic memory emerges. Film changed culture and created a foundational memory of events that the viewer wasn’t physically at. #comm106
@Pohl_Geneva what’d you think of The Celluloid Closet? I had no idea homosexuals were suppressed by literal laws, not just general public opinion.. #comm106
“It is not choice that this Ad is celebrating, but the total negation or choice and choices.” (In reference to the Pepsi commercial from Watching Television) Incredible analysis on the midframe of Americans and it’s manipulation for profit #comm106
Really enjoyed the chapter on the Trans-Atlantic Telegraph from The Victorian Internet. Didn’t know it had such an impact on the 19th century... @jheekin1 don’t you agree the mass hysteria was valid?
Berger’s 3rd chapter in Ways of Seeing was definitely thought provoking... I wonder if now he would say the same about women being objects of man’s gaze. Would have to look at advertising today to back his argument.
@jackie_cuddy Facts. Maybe you remember less by having the ability to write but you can get so much more down to reference, one must be able to write to grasp what their own thoughts
