@Nnaniquism@StefanoZucca5@PhDVoice@PostdocVoice If a department receives an allegation, all students and post docs should be taken from the PI's lab and no new recruits. Freeze hiring from that lab until all is cleared. If found guilty, bye bye.
@Nnaniquism@StefanoZucca5@PhDVoice@PostdocVoice For starters, these people should be reported. NIH has a policy now and has taken measures against such PIs. Institutions should not even entertain picking them up if they have been fired like NYU tried to do with Sabatini.
@Brixius_Simone @AcademicChatter@PostdocVoice I agree. I hate it when people go on how great they are as scientists, what the discovered while they are utter๐ฉ as human beings. We need to end this. You are a bully then do great science by yourself.
@bhushanlab @drugmonkeyblog Premise. Not every scientific idea needs preliminary data. Example: Group 1 has est POC test for virus A. You have virus B and think it may work. Leverage published work from others on Virus B and similarities to A. Put the proposal together.
@ArthurHWinter@drugmonkeyblog They use scoring and % as a guide but they look at your current funding and the science. If you have too much $$$ and they fund too much in the area of science or it does not fall under their sci priorities they cut. The PO needs to step up ;)
@jdpereira@drugmonkeyblog Also there is the Katz R01 mechanism that does not require preliminary data. Do that. I agree with @drugmonkeyblog. Your app will be assigned to people who will have to read your and 8 more apps. It's a lot of work.
@azfaust Great points and I agree with you. But reviewers need to be professional. If they can't do this, then decline. This is on a volunteer basis; be respectful and professional.
@drugmonkeyblog They need to reclassify. I know Biden instructed but we need the research. It's a pain to deal with DEA reg to be able to do any research ๐คฏ
Is it me, or is there an increasing trend of establishing "centers" that appear to consist of a single PIs lab only? Are these just "shell centers" designed to divert more institutional $$$ to the PI, even temporarily, or a genuine attempt to start new centers?
@Schimelman @NeedhiBhalla And if PIs don't want to mentor grad students then they should pack up and leave academia. Part of their responsibility is mentoring. Period.
