So grateful to have the opportunity to listen to @HolSmale talk about her lived experiences of masking as part of the second @ITAKOM_CONF keynote today
I loved her point about how “understanding breeds compassion”- we need more of this across healthcare and education
#ITAKOM
@WordAware@NAPLIC@ITAKOM_CONF I should clarify that I haven’t heard about it yet, but may have been mentioned in poster talks or presentations that happened while I was elsewhere. But definitely not prominent in the way other neurotypes are
@ITAKOM_CONF today, fantastic experience. Notice much of the research relates to autism, ADHD, less focus on other NDD e.g. #DevLangDis DLD. So many talks with theme of ND-affirming approaches, but DLD usually implied within “and other types” despite ⬆️ prevalence and ⬆️ impact
It's #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek and so we want to give a big shout out to all of the DLDers. They need to work so hard every day because almost no one has heard of Developmental Language Disorder. #DevLangDis
@NAPLIC@ITAKOM_CONF Definitely, I noticed this within the “Storytelling” section. Was signposting people to this! @ITAKOM_CONF has been an opportunity to raise some more awareness of DLD & less well-known neurotypes
disagreeing with content at a conference is interesting when it’s nuanced. There were things in a talk I liked and things that made me feel annoyed and frustrated. This sharpens my own thoughts/language as to why I think of something differently @ITAKOM_CONF#ITAKOM23#MySLTDay
@LeadbitterKathy thank you for your brilliant presentation @ITAKOM_CONF clear outline of the importance of learning and unlearning; how we can work in a ND-affirmative way, definitely a highlight of #ITAKOM23 for me
Heading home from day 1 @ITAKOM_CONF#MySLTDay#ITAKOM
Highlights…✍️
Top quality talks in keynote spaces
Engaging research presentations
Friendly staff and delegates
Care/thought for small things = ⬆️ impact on access & enjoyment
Excellent brownies
I feel happy 👋🏽
I am SO looking forward to this 😊
Especially excited when I see how much thought has been put into accessibility and inclusion.
Not long to wait! @ITAKOM_CONF#MySLTDay
“They are not engaging. They are hard to reach. They are being difficult. They are resistant.”
What about it being flipped to:
“How can I engage better? How can I be more accessible, visible & on the same level? How can I make things easier, less complex & be more welcoming?”
Come and join us! Opportunities keep appearing, we keep expanding. Don’t worry if you’ve never worked in CAMHS before - I hadn’t, but I love it! 🏥💭💬📚 https://t.co/j6M49aka4Y

People may wonder what drives my activism so that #Autistic people are better understood in healthcare. Professionals, THINK about the language you use in reports. Here's a few snippets of my latest medical review:
