For decades, the world has been fed a simple but deadly myth: that Israel is a Western-Jewish European colonial project to colonize Arab lands.
But like all political myths, it persists not because of its truth, but because of its utility for power. Let's Breakdown:

Mizrahi: Children of the Soil Accused of Colonizing Their Own Land

More than half of Israel's Jewish population are not European Ashkenazi, but Mizrahi—Middle Eastern and North African Jews who originate from:

This was not colonialism, but the most massive moral reversal of the 20th century: victims were transformed into perpetrators, perpetrators transformed into political victims.

Soviet Propaganda and the Birth of the “Colonial Jew” Narrative

The narrative “Israel = Western colonial project” was not born from history, but from the ideological laboratory of Cairo, Damascus, and Moscow after 1948.
Soviet propaganda needed an ideological enemy that could be encapsulated in a simple dichotomy:

“Zionism = imperialism.”

“Palestine = anti-colonialism.”

Yet demographic facts shake up all this rhetoric:

More than half of Israel's people are descendants of Jewish refugees from Aleppo, Fez, Basra, and Sana'a—the same cities as the ancestors of modern Arabs.

They did not arrive on British colonial ships, but with the scars of Arab pogroms.

Moral Irony: The Arab World Condemns Itself

Arab states failed to protect their Jewish minorities, then blamed that collective guilt on Israel.
Mizrahis—who had recently lost their homes, possessions, and history—were accused of being “new colonizers” simply because they were building a life in refugee camps.

This isn't about religion, but narrative repression:
When history doesn't fit ideology, it must be erased.
Thus, the story of Mizrahi refugees is hidden to keep the myth of “Jewish colonialism” alive.

Two Tragedies, One Territory, One Lie

Yes, Palestinians experienced real suffering: the Nakba, the loss of land, the trauma of war.
But that suffering was no more genuine than the suffering of Mizrahi Jews expelled from Baghdad and Cairo.
Both were products of 20th-century geopolitics, not cosmic antagonists as promoted by Arab and Soviet rhetoric.

Palestinian freedom will never be born from the denial of the existence of Middle Eastern Jews.

Mizrahis are not colonizers. They are refugees refusing to disappear.

One built a nation from the rubble.
The other was left to live in the rubble for propaganda.
And as long as the world continues to swallow the myth of “Jewish colonialism,” the Middle East will continue to live in the prison of its self-created narrative.
