I recall watching JURASSIC PARK as a kid. Sam Neill brought such gravitas to Alan Grant. The arc he goes through in that film is so beautiful, with his cynicism gradually melting into this protective surrogate father. He helps make that ending. He will be sorely missed.

Joe Chill should NEVER, EVER become the Joker, or be a hired hitman, or a mob Enforcer of some type, etc. He should ALWAYS be a random mugger in a random alley. Wrong place, wrong time.

Making Joe Chills action part of a plan, or linking it to destiny by making him the Joker, FUNDAMENTALLY changes Batman's core motivations. Batman should fight a war on crime. PERIOD. Not on organized crime, or theatrical villains.

A tragic character with an impossible mission.
