We have now closed the end yokes of the Belle II detector.
Closing #belle2 is a major milestone as we prepare to embark on our second data taking period, Run 2, early in 2024. 🧵1/2
Despite their large weight and size the end yokes can be closed by a single person turning a handle, and a number of members of Belle II were able to participate in this task. 🧵2/2
The #Belle2 Physics Week has finished! There were many spirited discussions on how to improve |Vcb| measurements - between collaborators, theorists and insight from @LHCbExperiment ! We had many early career physicists that joined us, we hope this continues in future.
Zadnje letošnje srečanje skupine Belle II poteka ta teden. Pričakujemo živahno razpravo o zaključku priprav na ponovno zajemanje eksperimentalnih podatkov v začetku leta 2024. #B2GM#belle2collab#SuperKEKB
Today is the first day of the 46th Belle II General Meeting. Over 200 #Belle2 physicists are gathering at @kek_jp for an intense week as we finalise our preparations for our second data taking running period starting early next year. #B2GM
Happy 121st Birthday to Paul A. Dirac (b. 1902), one of the pioneers of quantum physics.
Dirac was a brilliant English physicist who made many important contributions to the fields of quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics, best known for his 1928 relativistic quantum theory of the electron, which combined the principles of quantum mechanics and special relativity.
This theory resulted an equation, famously known as the Dirac equation, predicted the existence of antimatter, a type of matter that has the same mass but opposite charge and spin as ordinary matter.
Dirac also introduced the concept of the Dirac sea, a theoretical model of the vacuum that contains an infinite number of negative-energy electrons2. He also developed the Dirac notation, a concise and elegant way of representing quantum states and operators using bra and ket symbols3.
Dirac was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933, along with Erwin Schrödinger, for their discoveries in atomic theory. He also received many other honors, such as the Royal Medal, the Copley Medal, and the Max Planck Medal. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a foreign member of many other academies. He taught at the University of Cambridge, the University of Miami, and Florida State University. He influenced many other physicists, such as Homi J. Bhabha, Harish-Chandra, Richard Feynman, Dennis Sciama, Fred Hoyle, and John Polkinghorne.
Dirac was a very reserved and quiet person, who spoke only when necessary and valued precision and clarity in his words and thoughts. He had a deep interest in mathematics and physics, but little interest in literature and art.
He was fascinated by the beauty and simplicity of nature’s laws, and sought to uncover them using mathematical methods. He once said,
“The aim of science is to make difficult things understandable in a simpler way; the aim of poetry is to state simple things in an incomprehensible way. The two are incompatible.”

V središče detektorja Belle II je bil nameščen nov detektor PXD. Detektor, namenjen natančnemu merjenju nabitih sledi in določanju mest razpada najbolj kratkoživih delcev, je velik kot majhna pločevinka energijske pijače!
Read about our new pixel detector (PXD), its journey from Germany (@desynews, @belle2germany) to Japan (@kek_jp) , and its installation in the heart of #Belle2, in the latest article from @particlenews.
Today is the final day of our June 2023 #B2GM, and it concluded with the passing of the torch from our outgoing spokesperson, Toru Iijima, to our incoming spokesperson, Karim Trabelsi. Thank you Iijima-sama, and welcome Karim.
The 45th #B2GM has begun, hosted by @KMINagoyaU
and @NagoyaUniv, and will be a week filled with detector, software, and computing updates, talks on physics analyses, and many discussions about progress toward resuming data taking this fall. Looking forward to a great week!
Redni sestanek raziskovalne skupine Belle II - tokrat v Nagoji: prva sekcija na ponedeljkovo jutro z uvodnimi predstavitvami in prvo rundo zanimivih diskusij. :)
#Belle2
This week the #FPCP2023 conference took place in Lyon, France. Speakers from #Belle2 presented 13 talks on many topics including recent CKM parameter, CP violation, dark sector, and quarkonium results. After a busy week of talks, they enjoyed dinner on a boat on the river Saône.
We welcomed approximately 400 school children at 15 institutions - they learned about how an experiment works, had a virtual tour of the Belle II control room and Tsukuba hall, and were able to perform their own data analysis guided by Belle II physicists. #Belle2#IMC2023
This year Belle II expanded its International Masterclass programme to include students from three continents; we welcomed new institutions from Armenia, Japan, Mexico, and the USA; joining Czechia, France, Germany, Italy, and Slovenia. #Belle2#IMC2023@IppogOrg
