Exc: George Cottrell, a convicted fraudster under scrutiny for secretly bankrolling Nigel Farage, spent Tuesday at Reform UK’s headquarters.

It is the first appearance of the man known as “Posh George” since revelations by The Sunday Times about gifts for Farage covering private security, staff, transport and accommodation.

The whereabouts of Cottrell have been unknown, and he has answered only through his lawyers when asked questions about his financial support for Farage in the year before the 2024 general election. He is believed to have spent the last few weeks outside London.

However, sources said Cottrell was at Reform UK’s head office on Tuesday. One said he was “seemingly unfussed about being spotted”.

It will fuel questions about Cottrell’s relationship with the party, given that Reform UK has said he has no official role and that the benefits in kind that he funded were purely personal.

Farage is understood to have spent Tuesday time in Norfolk and in Clacton, Essex, campaigning in the by-election he triggered.

Reform declined to comment. Farage has previously said Cottrell's donations-in-kind were “literally no one’s business” because he “wasn’t in politics” at that time and they were purely personal.
