UK dude, into UK & US politics, fresh air, musical adventures and scientific stuff. Twitter can be toxic and tribal so let’s be nice, peeps. #SayNoToRacism
So we're all supposed to "prepare for blizzard conditions" just because the scientific establishment and the media say so? And anyone who says it will be sunny and 70 is canceled?
All's I'm saying is, lots of $ changing hands in snow shovel industry. Do your own meteorology.
@meloncarrier I can’t quote evidence but I believe it has something to do with a) it takes a few days from infection to show symptoms b) you’re most infectious and risky to others a couple of days before symptoms to a couple of days after c) LFTs are v good at detecting the most infectious
@deanna1098@kylegriffin1 The UK’s been doing this for months. Free to everyone. Can order a 7 test pack every 24 hours. Takes 1 min online. Also available at pharmacies. Temporary shortage a few days ago during peak Omicron warnings but settled down. Many people now are routinely testing pre mixing etc.
@TomWutz@ScottGottliebMD I understand the sentiment. I guess it’s the difference between “news” vs hope. Many of us understandably are hoping for good news and therefore latch on to the tiniest shred of data which appears to offer hope. But - it still is too early to tell.
@stillth1nk1ng@GaryLineker Sure, why not have a debate amongst expert astronomers, some of whom believe in round earth and some who believe in flat earth.
NEW: here’s a chart showing daily cases by specimen date in London, broken down by variant.
This is what is coming to ~every country across the world in the coming weeks.
@IAmDougLewis @wes_wade @BlkGrlBrilliant Absolutely. Many decades ago:
Boss: “is this a problem?”
Me: Yes of course!
Boss: “But is it really?”
Me: Well yes..
Boss: “Deep down, really reeally?”
Me: Well… I think it is
Boss: “Think or know?”
Me: Er, think I suppose..
Boss: “Come back later IF you know & HOW you know it”
@__Michael_Prior @Sprungbogart @PoliticsForAlI Can’t conclude this safely if lag from cases to deaths is 10 days. Simple maths - v high growth in cases = short term fall in death rate if measured by arbitrary 10 day lag. Need 3-4 weeks + to know what is really happening
@PoliticsForAlI Context! - the SA chart he used to make this statement shows the deaths 10 days after cases. This is far too short. Try again in 4 weeks. If cases shooting up v quickly and lag is 4 weeks then obviously the death rate (10 day lag) will fall in the short term.
@CathNoakes Agree. Twitter comments often appear like as string of ones and zeros. All binary, 100% or nothing. If one person with vaccine gets infected/ill/dies then “vaccines don’t work”. If masks don’t 100% prevent spread then “why bother with them at all then?” Etc ad infinitum.
